Setting up Port Forwarding 07/12/2023 at 16:17 #154643

Hi,

I've recently been trying to set up port forwarding but the SimSig test button says the connection has failed. I've tried everything I can think of but it still doesn't work. I've set up a port forwarding rule on my router, set a static IP address, set an inbound rule on the Windows firewall, switched off UPnP and stopped connecting through a WiFi booster. Does anyone have any idea why it might not being working? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you followed the instructions on the Wikki Page?

I have, but re-reading it now I noticed there's a link to a program to set up port forwarding at the bottom. Would this be able to solve the reason port forwarding hasn't been working for me so far?

If you think you have set up your router correctly it could be either anti virus or have you allowed SimSig thro the firewall on your computer?

Apparently, the McAfee firewall which I use works with the windows firewall for inbound connections, so since I have set up a rule for SimSig on Windows, I believe it shouldn't be a problem. Would an outbound rule also be necessary? Also, what might I need to change on my antivirus to get this to work?

I'd be inclined to turn both off while your trying to get it to work. If that fixes it then its 1 or the other. If you establish that's the problem then at least you know where to start looking. You shouldn't need an outbound rule only inbound.

Thanks for the offer but at the moment I haven't got the time to. I'll try switching off the firewall when I eventually find the chance.

Thanks! Because of this I managed to figure out I hadn't quite set up the inbound rule properly as although the port had a rule, I hadn't allowed the loader through the firewall. I've now got it all working!
