This simulation covers the area of the now closed Derby PSB, as well as the signal boxes at Mantle Lane, and Moira West.
The West workstation supervises the lines from Alrewas and Kingsbury Junction, through to Sunny Hill Goods loops, including the lines heading off passed Drakelow Power Station towards Moira West, the Chellaston lines towards Sheet Stores Junction, and the Stoke lines towards Tutbury.
Centre workstation controls the area immediately around Derby station itself, with an array of sheds and depots including the Railway Technical Centre; home to the nations fleet of test trains. It also controls the branch line to Sinfin Sidings, and the main line through Spondon towards Sheet Stores Junction.
North workstation controls the goods lines and yards immediately north of Derby, and continues through to Clay Cross Junction, and includes the single lines to Matlock and Wirksworth.
Moira West and Mantle Lane workstations supervise the goods lines heading towards Bardon Hill and Leicester, with an array of collieries and loading points.
Platforms 1 & 2 are closed at Derby station for engineering work.
Platforms 3 & 4 are closed at Derby station for engineering work.
Platform 6 & the goods lines are closed at Derby station for engineering work.
Note that only major infrastructure changes have been simulated between the two eras offerred, various sidings and ground frames have been left simulated in both eras were the closure date was unclear or impossible to determine, this allows greater scope for timetable writers to simulate a wider rnage of eras.
Set from 2000 to the closure of Derby PSB in 2018. Barton Under Needwood (Central Rivers) depot is open and serves the 220 Voyager & 221 Super Voyager fleets. Various branches and power stations have closed from the earlier era.
The pre 2000 era is set roughly between 1986; when the line between Moira West and Mantle Lane was singled between the newly created Lounge Junction and Mantle Lane, and the turn of the millenium. Willington power station, the Denby branch, the Wirksworth branch and St Marys North Yard are all included.

Note that in real life Derby was not fitted with TORR, and as such the default setting for the sim is for TORR to be off.
Tick to enable controlled level crossings, with this unticked the CCTV crossings at Coalville, Spondon and Clay Mills will not need to be operated.

Simulation message 1 is assigned to the annunciator for Clay Mills Crossing.
Simulation message 2 is assigned to the annunciator for Spondon Crossing.
A phone call may be placed to all external signal boxes to impose a temporary block on traffic. Trains will be held outside your control area until another call is made to lift the block.

There are numerous ground frames within the Derby area. Several frames have two releases, usually where the frame controls points on more than one running line- for example, a crossover between the Up and Down lines, and also access to a siding from one of those lines. Moves requiring use of both lines will require both releases to be given. These frames also have two 'king' (blue and brown) levers, one for each release. Where the crossover is to be used, both king levers must be operated to allow the crossover points to be moved. Where the points are only on one running line, only the king lever relating to that line needs to be operated.
Where a ground frame is provided with Facing Point Lock (FPL) levers, these generally need to be reversed to move the point which they apply to, and normalised to lock the point into position before any signals can be cleared over the points concerned.
The aspects for banner repeaters at Derby PSB where not indicated back to the panel, and this has been reflected by drawing the banner repeaters heads greyed out, with the default aspect shown.
Kingsbury Shunt Frame is off-sim in Saltley's control area but Derby must not send a train for there until they are ready to take it. Place a telephone call to Kingsbury in plenty of time before the train has reached Wichnor Junction so that you have time to decide what to do with it. If Kingsbury is ready then allow the train to run through, if not put the train into the loop at Elford until Kingsbury can accept it.
Elford Ground Frame is a Ground Switch Panel. Unusually two releases apply to the same ground frame. Either release will allow the frame to be operated, but the points into Elford Down Goods Loop will be set in normal or reverse depending on which release is given. Once either release is given the free lamp will flash in the ground frame, press the "Free" button to take control of the frame.
You have control of the Up & Down Walsall single line, in order for Alrewas to send a train toward you, you must grant DY76 slot by setting a route from SAS5 to 78 signal.
A phone call must be placed to Barton Central Rivers depot for arriving trains (either North or South end).
For a train to leave the depot at the south end DY54 slot needs to be granted. This is given by setting a route from BD2 or BD4 to 52 signal.
BD1 signal will clear automatically to allow trains to enter the depot.
The stop board at the north end is under the control of the depot, and trains will pass it without you needing to do anything.
On the Down Goods line, the Train Describer berth for signal 106 is shown next to the Train Describer berth for signal 98, a quirk of the real panel.
The shunt signal on the line from Birmingham Curve junction is normally unlit (shown as grey), and displays a fixed red aspect when the frame is released. Trains entering the siding require a route to be set from DY97 or DY99 to the grey exit arrow directly above the siding point, which can be done when the points are moved and lever 1 is reversed. These signals are also slotted by levers 1 and 2 respectively on the ground frame; the signals will not clear unless the relevant lever is reversed.
The Goods Lines here are permissive ; at automatic signals, the subsidiary will light automatically if the section ahead is occupied. Please note that they have a 15mph speed limit throughout.
It is possible to exclude the opposite locking on DY169 and DY170, to allow trains to shunt in/out of Wetmore sidings multiple times without the route having to be constantly re-set. To remove the locking, set a route from DY169 to the shunt arrow next to DY181, and set a route from DY170 to Wetmore Sidings. Right click the '169/170 locking release' button, and both signals will clear.
Trains bound for Mosley Street siding must approach from the Wetmore Jn direction- the frame cannot be released if they are routed from signal 141 to the LOS.
A route may be set from Signal 170 along the Up Goods towards Burton, using the white arrow to the left of 171, provided a train is occupying the section between 157 and 171.
The board lit indicator provided proves that the lamp on the stop board in the yard is lit. You should not allow trains to approach the yard if this indicator goes out.
You have an emergency replacement switch on EN10 to hold that signal at danger should you need to protect Egginton AHB for a crossing user. When chained to Staffordshire you should liaise with the player on the Derby Lines workstation before allowing a user to cross.
Both Goods loops are permissive
Gresley tunnel is shown on both this workstation and the Moira West workstation. The track circuit layout on Derby PSB could only see the track circuits in this area as a combined indication, this has been accurately simulated.
There are separate releases for the siding and the crossover; moves between the Up Goods and the siding to not require the crossover (U/D) release. It is not possible to signal a train from the Down Goods to the siding or Up goods, or from the Up Goods to the Down Goods (unless the move starts from the siding). However, a train can be signalled from the siding towards the LOS on the Up Goods.
TRTS is provided on all platforms.
Permissive Working is authorised in all platforms. Take care to ensure there is room for the train you are calling on.
Trains booked to stop at the A or B end of the platform will stop in the correct end of the platform automatically if sent to the correct platform. Trains booked to stop in the full length of a platform will stop roughly in the middle if sent to the correct platform. Where a train arrives in a platform it is not booked for it will go to the far end relative to the direction it arrives from.
Platform code "TL" is used to indicate a train may use any line or platform at the station.
Platform alterations should be advised by telephone to the Station Supervisor in order to reduce delay.
Via buttons are provided at the south end of the station, and are mandatory if there are multiple routes between the entry and exit signals. They must not be used if only one route exists.
Shunting arrows are provided outside Derby station. Setting a route from a platform starter signal to a white exit arrow causes a shunting aspect to be shown to the driver, and the TD will not step.
Note that Signal 430 on the Down Main gives access only to platforms 1-3. Signal 442 must be used for trains for platforms 4-6; trains to platforms 1-3 may also be routed from this signal if the route via the crossover at Way & Works is required. Note that the points in advance of 442 are locked as soon as a train passes the overlap of 416, and won't release until the train has come to a stand at 442.
The hand point within Station Yard CS is controlled via a ground frame in the simulation. Before routing a train into the C.S. from the Station Junction end, set the hand point to the desired position. To signal a train out of the C.S. towards Station Junction, set a route from signal 457, then set the point to the desired position and then pull lever 2 to instruct the train to obey DY457.
The frame can only be released when no route is set from signal 459, or towards 476. Lever 2 is a facing point lock, and must be reversed before the points are moved. You must then re-lock the points (move Lever 2 normal) before any slot can be given. Once a slot is given, a route can be set in/out of the Slum Siding from the signal corresponding to the slot.
A phone call must be made prior to signalling a train into the sidings.
Derby R.T.C has two entrances & exits with the simulation. Either the P.Way siding, or the Research siding. While trains are timetable to a specific location, the shunter will accept trains to either location and you should ring the appropriate shunter for were you wish to send the train.
This timetable location refers to the Connect line (between DY425 and DY428), the actual sidings are outside the control area.
Telephone permission is required to send trains into Etches Park CS. There is a hand point and a signal (DY426) that applies to both roads: you do not need to concern yourself with this except that both "legs" of the trackwork will light white/red with a route set or track occupied.
To signal a train down the branch use the grey exit arrow located opposite the platform at Sinfin North.
Passenger trains returning from Sinfin Central will call for your authority to proceed back along the branch line towards Sinfin North.
There are three ground frames on the Sinfin branch, but only one release is provided on the panel. Granting this release allows all three ground frames to be operated. Right click the #1, #2, or #3 to access the ground frame popups for each of the frames. It is not possible to restore the release until all three ground frames are normal.
The No.1 Ground Frame gives access to the loop (Shown in timetables as [Sinfin GF No.2 Loop]), trains timetabled to use the loop will stop and await the ground frame hand signal.
Indications will illuminate when a train is in the loop, and when a train is over the points.
The No.2 Ground Frame gives access to the loop (Shown in timetables as [Sinfin GF No.2 Loop]), and to the No 2 siding (Shown in timetables as [Sinfin GF No.2 Sdg]). Trains timetabled to use the loop, or the siding here will stop and await the ground frame hand signal.
Indications will illuminate when a train is in the loop, and when a train is over the points.
The No.3 Ground Frame gives access to Sinfin Sidings (Shown in timetables as [Sinfin Sdgs]). Trains will stop and await the ground frame signal to enter the sidings. Trains which enter at the sidings will wait for the ground frame signal before moving onto the branch.
Indications will illuminate when a train is in the sidings (Note it will extinguish when the train leaves the simulation as the sidings are an exit point), and when a train is over the points.
These are authorised for passenger use. However, ensure that any previous train is clear of the loop before signalling another train in, otherwise the driver will get a calling-on route which is not permitted for passenger trains here. Freight trains can be permissively signalled (two+ trains in section) providing there is room.
Trains can be signalled to Ambergate from Broadholme as usual. However, to proceed to Matlock the train crew has to obtain a token from the instrument at Ambergate. When the token is requested, left-click on the "release" control to allow the crew to take the token. The "Matlock Token" display will change from "in" to "out". The route from 572 to the exit triangle at Matlock can now be set.
Trains will phone in for permission to depart from Matlock station when returning to Amergate.
On returning to Ambergate, the train crew will replace the token without intervention by the signaller, and the train can be signalled off the branch in the usual manner.
A train can't be signalled in to Ambergate platform while the token is withdrawn.
Beyond Matlock, there is a connection to the 'Peak Rail' heritage railway. Trains heading towards Peak Rail will phone to request departure from Matlock; on this being granted, they will proceed onto Peak Rail, return the token and exit the simulation without any further intervention from the signaller.
Trains from Peak Rail will request permission to collect the token. Shortly after permission is given, the 'release' light on the token instrument will flash, and once clicked will allow the driver to take the token. The driver will call again to request departure from Matlock, at which point the train behaves like any other from Matlock. Permission to withdraw a token must only be given if the line is clear to signal 571.
Simulation message 3 is assigned to the Matlock token.
There are two releases for this frame. Moves between the Up Main and the siding do not require the Down Main release, moves between the Down and Up Main require both releases.
The Wirksworth branch is also controlled by a token instrument, the function of which is similar to that of the Matlock branch. Trains will automatically return the token on arrival at Wirksworth, and on entering the simulation at Wirksworth will request permission to collect a token. Permission must only be given if the line is clear to signal 547.
Trains cannot be signalled into the branch platform at Duffield (i.e. to signal 548) if the branch token is withdrawn.
Simulation message 4 is assigned to the Wirksworth token.
The Up & Down Goods lines between Breadsall and Derby are permissive throughout.
Trains will call you for permission to pass the stop board at the end of the branch, you may grant this permission providing you have not allowed a train to come the other way.
There is no signaled route form the wagon shop, unsignalled lines connected the wagon shop and the yard at Mantle Lane TC.
The single line between Mantle Lane and Moira West is controlled by Moira West, they must grant ML18 slot for you to set a route from ML18 signal. Care should be taken to only signal trains towards ML18 signal if Moira West is in a position to accept the train.
The names given to the various collieries and sidings on this workstation have been taken from the real life panel schematic. Research into the area has shown that the various locations have been named differently over the years depending on which colliery or seam was loading there at the time.
You must grant ML18 slot to allow Mantle Lane to send a train toward you.
Gresley tunnel is shown on both this workstation and the West workstation. The track circuit layout at Moira West box is slightly different to Derby PSB in that it can see multiple subsections of what Derby sees as a combined track circuit.

Note that when chaining to Staffordshire Derby loses control of DY294 and the signal will grey out on this simulation. You are still able to replace it using the emergency replacement switch, you should advise the player on Staffordshire Derby Lines workstation immediately on doing this. When chained requests to cross at Eggington AHB may be received by either the West workstation, or the player on Staffordshire Derby Lines workstation and you should liase with them as required.
