There are 6 main scenarios provided with a number of sub-scenarios.
Scenario | Description |

Perfect | Everything should run like clockwork (user errors excluded). No failures or delays. |
Beginner | As Perfect, but some minor delays may be experienced. |
Standard | As Beginner plus temporary speed restrictions and occasional trackside equipment failures. Also small risk a major disruption. |
Difficult | As Standard plus one of 10 line closure events will be in place. Small risk of major disruption, and delays and trackside failures will be common. |
Tay Bridge | As Standard but with the Tay Bridge closed. All trains entering at Ladybank will be diverted to Hilton Jn automatically. |
Bad Weather | As Difficult but more so! Slippery rails and other problems to deal with. |
Note: for best results link an alarm sound to the Simulation-Specific #2 message type via the F3 menu . The IECC "beep" is recommended.
There is the option to use the 2010 layout at Montrose by selecting the 'Montrose Resignalling' option at start-up. The resignalling saw the closure of Montrose South and Usan boxes, with Montrose North taking control. Most semaphores in the Montrose area were replaced with colour lights at the same time.
Train Operated Route Release is only provided at Dundee in real life, and this is reflected in the simulation.
Selecting this option adds TORR to the other two NX panels at Perth and Aberdeen.
All other boxes are mechanical lever frames, and as such there is no option to enable TORR. This is to simulate the signaller having to replace the signal levers after a train passes.
Almost all of the Absolute Block sections are not track-circuited, and the running lines at some boxes aren't continuously track circuited either. The train describer can be used to maintain keep track of trains.
The sim is constructed by default to not show TCs where there are none in reality. However, for those who prefer slightly easier life there is an option to have these areas shown as though they were track circuited.
This is a 'fun' option intended for multiplayer sessions which allows players to 'ding' bells and give 'Line Clear' and 'Train On Line' indicators. For best results link a bell sound to both the 'Block Bell #1' and 'Block Bell #2' message option via the F3 menu . The Simulation is set up to play one sound in the down direction and the other in the up direction. You can also link a tapper sound to 'Simulation-specific #1' if you wish. The total effect being that the sending player should hear a tapper sound as they bells the next box and hear the relevant bell sound in return. It is recommended that you don't bell yourself where you control adjacent boxes. The AB bells option cannot be used in conjunction with the additional track circuit option; AB bells will take precedence if both are selected.

If enabled, this makes the simulation operation as close as possible to the real lever frames in mechanical areas. Points must be set correctly prior to route setting, including within the clearing point where applicable. At junctions where points are flank-locked, points must be moved sequentially to set a route up. See the mechanical signalling section for more details. The mechanical interlocking option cannot be used in conjunction with the additional track circuit option; mechanical interlocking will take precedence if both are selected.
