This simulation covers Penzance Signal Box in Cornwall.
It is a mid-sized four platform terminus station with a Depot and single line approach.
The signal box is an ideal beginner simulation, featuring a "bit of everything" that SimSig has to offer.
Scale of problems
This will set the level/quantity of failures that you should expect in the sim. In None and Low setting, TDs will also be interposed at the siding entry points. In Medium and High setting, the TDs are not interposed
Train Operated Route Release:
This is a standard option as to whether or not Train Operated Route Release (TORR) is on in the sim. It is disabled by default and applies to all signals in the sim.
Details on how to operate the Absolute Block system can be found in the separate Absolute Block manual .
There are selectable options to display Signal Numbers (SGN), Point Numbers (PTN) and Track Circuit Numbers (TCN).
These are selected by left clicking on the relevant orange box at the top left hand side of the simulation. If you have one option selected and then select another the first option will automatically deselect. Right clicking an active number box will turn it off.
There is only one workstation in this simulation, Penzance. This works Absolute Block to the next signal box, St Erth.
Trains towards Penzance T&RSMD need telephone permission from the Shunter before sending them in. You will be able to set the route without permission but will be penalised for doing so.
You cannot set a route upto either Signal PZ26 or Signal PZ28 unless an onward route is set, and these signals have to be showing a proceed aspect before any signal reading up to them will display a proceed aspect.
You cannot signal a train from PZ2 signal into the Carriage Reception Line with Long Rock Crossing in Auto. If you have the auto selected on the crossing the signal will not clear.
Trains booked to the Down Sidings or Sea Sidings will exit the sim unless they are timetabled back out in the opposite direction, in which case they will reverse immediately behind PZ71 or PZ44 signals respectively.
Based on a Friday from the original WTT from 1976.
No station working book was available so platforming was to ensure longer trains fit into the platforms.
Given the amount of shunts, engine changes etc. nearly every possible move is used within this timetable.
Based on 15th October 2009.
Based on 8th April 2015.
Based on 9th January 2019.
Name | Type | Panel | Located Between | Protecting Signals |

Long Rock | MCB-CCTV | Penzance | St Erth and Penzance | PZ2, PZ65 and PZ66 |
Ponsandane | UWC with Telephone | Penzance | Long Rock and Penzance | PZ2, PZ15, PZ19, PZ20, PZ22 and PZ66 |
The simulation is not compatible with any other for Chaining and being one workstation is impractical for multiplayer.
In addition to the standard shortcut keys , the following are available:
No hotkeys are provided as the simulation will comfortably fit on one screen in full.
This is a PDF copy of the sim with the inbuilt sim numbers switched on. Press the SGN button in the top left of the sim to display the numbers
This is an Adobe Acrobat PDF files. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer you can get a free download of the latest version from the Adobe website .

Train Ready to Start indicators are provided in SimSig for all four platforms at Penzance, this is not the case in reality.
In reality there is an "Axle Counter Override" in the station throat to guard against the higher than average number of track circuit failures due to sea water incursions. This is not included in the simulation.
In non-TORR mode, Long Rock Crossing will not auto-raise. This is a limitation with the Core Code which is common across many simulations.
