Panel two is the longest panel in terms of route mileage, but this is then tempered by the fact that the majority of the panel consists of stretches of automatic signalling. The only controlled signals on this panel are those in the Fratton area, the Portcreek, Farlington and Cosham triangle and the signals affecting Cosham Level Crossing. Within your area of control you are responsible for Fratton Yards, Fratton Carriage Sidings / Depot, Fratton Station, Hilsea Station and Cosham Station, along with the junctions at Portcreek, Farlington and Cosham.
The yards that comprise the Fratton Yard and Depot complex (See the timetable section of this manual for details) are under the control of Fratton Shunt Frame. The operator will telephone the signaller when a train is ready to leave part of the complex, and the signaller will need to phone the shunt frame operator when a train is ready to enter any part of the complex. For further restrictions on this, see the operational notes section.
The user should note that there is a carriage washing plant immediately after the staff halt, and the speed of all trains passing through this is restricted to a maximum of 3mph in both directions.
The following interlocking areas affect the signalling equipment within your area of control.
Interlocking area | Number of individual items of equipment affected | |
---|---|---|
Fratton | 121 Items of signalling equipment in the area. | |
Farlington | 192 Items of signalling equipment in the area. | |
Cosham | 42 Items of signalling equipment in the area. |
