The route from St Pancras/Moorgate/Farringdon to Bedford is provided with 25kV AC overhead electrification. Use the 'Show Electrification' button next to Mill Hill Broadway to show detailed limits. Note in particular that the Goods lines from Cricklewood to Silkstream Jn aren't electrified, and electrification at Bedford is the bare minimum to support the Thameslink service. It will be noted that the electrification in this area is a self-contained island; no AC-only trains can access or leave the area.
At Farringdon, Thameslink trains switch to and from 750V DC third rail (the standard south of the Thames); this form of electrification is provided through from Farringdon to Blackfriars, with a dual-voltage section through Farringdon station.
Despite the metro-style service operated on the Thameslink route and the large number of Fast-Slow crossovers, the vast majority of routes over them aren't provided with flashing yellow sequences, and are approach released from red. The exceptions are West Hampstead South Jn (Up Fast to Up Slow), Radlett Jn (Up Slow to Up Fast) and Bedford South Jn (Down Fast to Down Slow).
