Shunt Signals

Shunt signals are represented by small triangles, and can be either stand-alone or subsidiary to a stop signal. Stand alone shunt signals have 2 aspects: stop (red) or proceed (2 white lights). Subsidiary signals can only display the proceed aspect, which if shown authorises the driver to pass the main aspect at danger.

Shunt signals authorise a movement to proceed as far as is clear (driving on sight), so the driver has to proceed with caution, keeping a lookout for any obstruction. For this reason the movement of passenger trains is generally prohibited for signalling by shunt signals.

An exception is where trains arrive at a terminus or other station where dual occupation of platforms is authorised, or where two trains are to be joined. In this case the signal is referred to as a calling-on signal, and will be approach controlled.

Where shunt signals are located on a route controlled by a stop signal, they must be cleared before the stop signal is cleared. (SimSig does this automatically). Such signals are known as a Preset Shunt .

By default, SimSig does not show all shunt signals on the control area. To show them all, set "Show all shunt signals" to on in the options page (F3 button).
