Original sim written by Karl Latham.
This sim covers the area of the former Barry, Aberthaw and Cowbridge Road signalboxes which controlled the "Vale of Glamorgan" line between Cogan Junction and Bridgend.
You take control just past Cogan Junction; where this simulation fringes to Cardiff, through Eastbrook, Dinas Powys and Cadoxton, where access to the Dock Lines is available, through Barry Docks (Station) before reaching Barry and its junction. Here the line to Barry Island diverges. The mainline continues through Rhoose, and past Aberthaw with it's various freight locations. Llantwit Major is then reached, then Cowbridge Road and the access to Ford Sidings before we hand over to Port Talbot Panel, just outside Bridgend.
During the creation of the Wales & Borders series the use of the Welsh language has been a source of much fun and enjoyment. I have tried to use the English version of place names throughout the simulation, sometimes due to the fact I speak the Welsh language, and have lived in Wales most of my life a Welsh version of a place names "slips through the net" especially in cases where it is hard for the testing team to spot the difference (eg English - Treforest / Welsh - Trefforest). A list of Welsh equivalent names is provided in the Reference Section.
TORR is provided, however for realistic play this option should be disabled.
Choose the scale of train delays and infrastructure failures. The normal SimSig options of “None”, “Low”, “Medium” and “High” are available. Select which one you wish to play from the drop-down menu.
The section between Barry and Aberthaw is worked under the Absolute Block regulations. The method of operation is identical to that of the other Wales & Boarders simulations, and is explained in detail in theAbsolute Block manual . Unticking the box on start-up disables the AB working, and routes are set in the same way as the rest of the simulation.
Where a workstation has multiple interlockings within its control a button labelled "INT" on an orange background is available to turn the interlocking boundary markers on (white text) or off (black text). The interlocking boundaries are shown in red and will assist you in locating a failure should it occur.
Signal Group Replacement Control is provided for Aberthaw SSI interlocking.
There are several different types of level crossings on the sim.
Crossing | Type | Located Between | Workstation |
---|---|---|---|
Rhoose | CCTV | Rhoose platforms | Aberthaw |
Church Farm | UWC | Aberthaw and Llantwit Major | Aberthaw |
Llanlow | UWC | Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Road | Aberthaw |
Farmers | UWC | Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Road | Aberthaw |
This simulation is ideally suited to one player, either playing standalone, or chained into one of the adjacent simulations.
Vale Of Glamorgan chains to Cardiff (Cogan Junction) and Port Talbot (Bridgend).
