You will receive a penalty if the barriers at High Street or Horsham Road are left down for more than 4 minutes.
Parsonage Road and Warnham crossings have stopping controls in the Down direction. This is because the Littlehaven and Warnham stations are so close to the crossings that the closing of the crossing is delayed to avoid unnecessary delay for road users. However, since the site of the sensor which starts the sequence is too close to the crossing to ensure the barriers are down before a train travelling at full speed arrives, the signal is held at red until the barriers are down. To avoid delays to non-stop trains, press the ‘non-stop’ button, which clears the signal and uses a different sensor further away from the crossing to determine the time at which the crossing closes. For stopping trains, press the 'Stop' button to confirm that the train is stopping.
In reality, Warnham crossing is left in non-stop mode, as the approach to the signal is downhill and notorious for poor grip.
Clearance of Signal 896 may be inhibited if the route across the AHB is not set in time to allow for the lowering sequence to complete in time before a train approaches.
Controlled by a crossing keeper at Littlehaven Box, and crossing clear slotted with the protecting signals 891 & 894.
