Introduction

This simulation covers Hunts Cross PSB, Warrington Central signal box, and Glazebrook East signal Box.

You are in control of the south end of the Merseyrail network’s Northern Line, handling the intensive service operated between Hunts Cross and destinations further north. Knock on delays can quickly cripple the service. At Hunts Cross West Junction, the Merseyrail line merges into the Cheshire Lines Committee route from Liverpool to Manchester. There is not much warning is given for trains approaching from Liverpool South Parkway High Level.

The simulation continues through Warrington Central having passed by the US Army Sidings ground frame. Just outside of Warrington Central is a small number of sidings.

The simulation continues through to Glazebrook East, the Down Passing loop giving the only regulation option on this two-track railway.

Start-Up Options

Other Options

Scale of Problems:

Choose the scale of train delays and infrastructure failures. The normal SimSig options of “None”, “Low”, “Medium” and “High” are available. Select which one you wish to play from the drop-down menu.

Features

Control Methods

The simulation contains two methods of operation. Mechanical control and NX control.

Mechanical Control

Mechanical control simulates the operation of the lever frames on both Warrington Central and Glazebrook East. To pull a lever, you'll need to left click, to replace a lever, you'll need to right click. Please note that for the operation of points, you're left clicking to reverse, rather than the normal left click.

Please note that none of the boxes simulated in this simulation contains TORR. As such, you'll need to manually replace the signal after the passage of each train.

Mechanical control also contains AB between Glazebrook East. Details of how the absolute block can be found in the separate Absolute Block manual .

NX Control

The NX controls start-up option is a much-simplified method of operation, more typical of SimSig. This option removes the AB between Glazebrook East and Warrington Central and adds TORR.

Panel Notes

Hunts Cross

The Up and Down Southport lines are electrified with the 3rd rail DC system.

Only platforms 2 and 3 at Hunts Cross are electrified. Note the Up Cheshire line is not electrified between Hunts Cross West Junction and the platform. This is the only electrification within the simulation.

Routes onto the Down Chord are subject to approach control.

A turnback facility is available at Liverpool South Parkway Low Level towards Liverpool Central.

Care should be taken when regulating at Hunts Cross West Junction, trains give relatively little warning of approach on the Up Chord compared to from Liverpool Central.

Hunts Cross platform 2 can be used to turn trains back towards Warrington Central. The Up Cheshire line is also bidirectional between the station and the West Junction.

Warrington Central

Trains can terminate in both Platforms 1 and 2 to run back towards Manchester.

Trains from the RCE siding will require Points 21 to be reversed before talking past the stop board.

Points 27 cannot be reversed until the overlap of signal 52 has timed out.

Points 11 cannot be reversed until the overlap of signal 3 has timed out.

Trains booked to reversed at Warrington Central Carriage sidings can also reverse behind signal 19 on the Up Main.

Points 22 cannot be reversed until points 27 have been reversed.

The US army sidings ground frame is released via lever 46 in the frame and is then operated the same as other ground frames in SimSig.

Glazebrook East

Signal 40 is approach controlled from red unless signal 38 is also off.

Signal 32 is also approach released from red unless signal 101 is off. This signal will clear as soon as the berth track becomes occupied.

As there is no detection on the track, Signal 31 will only return to yellow once a train occupies the berth track for signal 32.

Signals 16, 18 and 47 are the only semaphores within the sim and are drawn as such. Please also note that these are not repeated back to the box as per the other signals in the mechanical control mode.

To route from signal 16 towards signal 47, signal 47 must be off first.

Timetable Notes

8th April 2015

A full 24-hour session suitable for either mode

Set on Wednesday 8/4/2015 using passenger rolling stock and diagrams as allocated on the day, with actual Freight workings referenced against which ran that day.

This timetable is bundled with the initial release of the simulation & is fully compatible with the Manchester Piccadilly simulation

Please report any issues on the forum.
