Leeds Ardsley is one of the York IECC suite of simulations and covers the electrified mainline from Holbeck Junction to Adwick Junction via Wakefield Westgate as well as the non-electrified Pontefract line from Swinton to Ferrybridge via Moorthorpe. As a result there is a good mixture of freight and passenger services through the area. The whole simulation is fitted with ARS as per the real workstation, so is operable by a single person, but owing to the terminating services at Wakefield Westgate, and numerous junctions, a close eye needs to be kept on what the ARS is doing.
No delays or equipment failures.
Some minor delays, and a small chance of equipment failures.
It's autumn, and poor railhead conditions mean that trains are accelerating slower and braking earlier, causing numerous delays. There's also a higher chance of equipment failures.
ARS enabled: Selected by default- untick to disable ARS.
As per the real IECC, full ARS is provided. While ARS can run most of the simulation without intervention, you will need to set manual routes into sidings, and may have to step in if trains are delayed.
The route from Adwick Jn to Holbeck Jn is electrified with standard 25kV OHLE throughout, including Hemsworth loops. Wrenthorpe Reception and the Prison Siding are also electrified. All other lines and sidings are non-electrified.
Both platforms are Permissive .
Trains from Wakefield Kirkgate towards Wakefield Westgate require a slot to be given by setting 247 signal, this will allow the Kirkgate signaller to get a proceed aspect on his platform starters.
The simulation is ideal for a single player, with or without the assistance of ARS.
The simulation chains on all fringes:
Simulation | Location |
---|---|
Doncaster North | Adwick Jn |
Leeds East/West | Holbeck Jn |
Sheffield | Swinton |
West Yorkshire | Crofton West Jn |
West Yorkshire | Ferrybridge North Jn |
West Yorkshire | Wakefield Kirkgate |
Provision exists for the simulation to chain at other fringes, should the corresponding simulation be developed in the future.
In addition to the standard shortcut keys , the following are available:
Key | Panel Area |
---|---|
1 | Moorthorpe/South Kirby Jn |
2 | Hare Park Jn/Wakefield Westgate south end |
3 | Wakefield Westgate north end |

The Pontefract lines from Ferrybridge enter the simulation at a 1 in 150 gradient which peaks shortly after entering, from there the line drops down into the valley at Moorthorpe at a 1 in 150 downward slope, reaching the bottom just past Moorthorpe Loop after which it is a gentle climb at no more than 1 in 128 to Thurnscoe and then another drop down a 1 in 130 to the otherside of Bolton-upon-Dearne.
The Doncaster lines enter from the Leeds direction on a desent of no more than 1 in 94 until reaching the valley floor just before Sandal and Agbrigg after which a gentle climb starts at 1 in 150 to Fitzwilliam after which the line continues gently undulating. The most significant gradient is the climb from Kirkgate to Westgate.
The sim has been designed to allow all feasible shunt movements with most shunt movements being shown in the timetable as the location followed by the signal number.
