MotherwellTrains for Motherwell TMD Arrival line and Lines 1 to 8 require a call to be placed to the sidings for permission to enter. No calls are required for the other lines.
The UGL and DGL are permissive.
Motherwell TMD (Wagon) GF controls access to and from the Wagon line. The signaller should set the routes from M374/M379 as normal with the GF controlling the point and signal clearing. Routes can be set from M379 to M367 or the Up line LOS.
The following sequence of moves must be followed for trains arriving from Motherwell Platform 1:
Trains from Braidhurst UGL can be routed from M388 into the Headshunt, in order to move past the loop points.
Trains cannot be signalled towards the frame from Motherwell platforms 2 and 3.
In 1980 mode, Logans Road is supervised by a Crossing Keeper. You must instruct them to lower the barriers by operating the 'Up' or 'Dn 1st' buttons as appropriate. The barriers can be held down for a second train in the same direction by operating the 'Dn 2nd' control.
The crossing keeper will lower the barriers on their own initiative for movements involving the North Siding.
In all other eras, Logans Road is a standard CCTV crossing worked in the usual way, and the North siding is signalled for moves over the crossing. ARS will lower the barriers, but will require the signaller to operate the 'Clear' button. Note that the signal sections from Uddingston are short, therefore the barriers should be lowered for an approaching train as soon as it passes M194.
Trains reversing behind M402, and up to 130m in length, can be signalled towards M393 to avoid the need to lower the barriers. Note that there is no onward route from M393 to M387.
Points 177 and 179 have optional "via" buttons to select the non-preferred route across them. In all cases the preferred route uses the second set of crossovers as encountered by a train; the via buttons should be used to select the first set.
Trains longer than 228m calling at Motherwell (primarily ECML Mk.IV or 2+9 HST sets) need to draw past M399 to get as many coaches within the station as possible. Therefore, M399 must be able to clear before a train over this length enters the station. To enforce this, M423 is held at red until the measuring track circuits in rear of it detect that the train is shorter than 228m. M423 will also clear if M399 is clear, or a route has been set to M361, M369 or Derby Sidings. To ensure ARS sets routes appropriately, any train over 228m calling at Motherwell should be timetabled to use the special Motherwell Platform 2 (long) location, and not the standard Motherwell location.
TRTS is provided in the Down direction only at Motherwell.
Platforms 1, 3 and 4 are permissive in the Up direction only.
For trains calling at Motherwell, ARS will only set an onward route 30 seconds before the booked departure time. This is because the regulation rule applies to the location as a whole, and many trains have a long dwell time, or terminate, at Motherwell, particularly platforms 3 & 4. Allowing ARS to set the route any earlier would result in ARS setting routes too early for these trains.
In 1980 mode, a route may be set into Platform 2 from M396 and M402, using the grey arrow at the end of platform 2.
The point to access Weighs CS is operated by hand by the train driver. In the simulation, it operates automatically when a train to or from the sidings approaches. Note that the distance between the CS point and M405 is 54m, so trains booked to reverse in the goods loop before entering or after exiting the siding will need an onward route setting from M405. ARS will handle this, provided 402 or 404 is selected as a 'Line' code at the GF timetable location.
There is no main aspect route from M422 to M442; routes must be set via the shunt signals.
The Down Main approaching M427 is permissive in 1980 era.
All sections of the DGL and UGLs are permissive.
Trains can shunt into the neck at the Motherwell end of the DGL to reverse behind M452, using the grey exit arrow at the end of the neck.
Flemington Coal Yard requires the Ground Frame to be operated to set the yard entry point. To release the ground frame, set a route from FELC/M449 to the appropriate exit arrow. Then, operate the frame in the usual way.
Note that trains can only enter the Coal Yard from Shieldmuir Down Siding #1 (M449), however trains leaving the sidings can be routed to all three Down Sidings.
Trains to the siding should be routed to M441 on UGL #2. When the train has entered the UGL, the ground frame can be released and operated. Virtual signals will appear when Lever 1 on the frame is reversed.
In 1980 mode, trains from the north end of the UGL to Wishaw Oil siding must have a route set to the grey exit arrow below and to the left of WISH1; setting a route to WISH1 itself is not possible. A route must then be set from WISH1 to the oil sidings, which will release the ground frame. In 1990 mode, trains can only access the siding by reversing at WISH1.
Trains exiting the siding must have a route set from WISH2 to M463, M467 or M473, which will release the ground frame.
Shieldmuir Royal Mail is for use by mail trains only. TRTS is provided. The loop is permissve from M464 and M477, but not M483.
In 1980 and 1990 modes, the Motherwell end of the Hamilton loop single line section is controlled by Workstation 4. Following the opening of the Larkhall branch, the junction was renamed Haughhead Junction and controlled from Workstation 1. Due to SimSig limitations, signals M419 and M234 are assigned to Workstation 1 in all eras, meaning that phone calls from these signals will go to Workstation 1.
