Welcome to the West Anglia side of London Liverpool Street IECC. This simulation covers the three workstations installed in 2001-2003 that control Hackney Downs, Chingford, South Tottenham, Seven Sisters, Cheshunt, Hertford East, Enfield Town, Harlow, and Stansted Airport.
The layout is a two-track railway with extremely little bi-directional/reversible signalling, but with a few opportunities to "loop" trains to allow faster ones to pass. This is a simulation where getting trains into the correct order is vital - and the consequences can be two, three, or more fast trains queued behind a stopping train causing tens of minutes of delays, not forgetting possible impacts on return workings.
West Anglia can currently be chained to Liverpool Street (station) to expand the control area to five workstations in total. This also makes a high portion of West Anglia trains "captive" - i.e. they never leave the pair of sims, so knock-on delays magnify even more, rippling back and forth across the two simulations.
West Anglia has automatic routesetting (ARS) for the majority of the signalled moves. Only a few sidings and freight trains need to be manually handled. Of course, like most ARS simulations with ARS, this can also be disabled for more hands-on fun.
The area also includes a large number of crossings of various types - CCTV crossings, AHBs, locally monitored gate boxes, and farm/public crossings. These make the simulation technically even more challenging - but can also be switched off at start.
