Wales and Borders
Chester lies at the convergence of no less than six routes. To the west, long distance trains arrive from the North Wales Coast and the Marches route from Shrewsbury and Cardiff, and continue towards Warrington and Crewe. Rural passenger traffic is represented on the mid-Cheshire route to Stockport, and electric suburban services by frequent Merseyrail trains to Liverpool. In addition to Chester PSB, a number of smaller boxes are simulated, giving you control of most of the routes to Crewe and Warrington, along with the connection from Hooton to Helsby. Half of this line (from Hooton to Ellesmere Port) has a relatively frequent Merseyrail service, while the rest is served only by a token few passenger trains a day, and the odd freight train to Ellesmere Port.
The majority of the smaller boxes work Absolute Block to at least one of their neighbours. The simulation has two eras: 2006 represents the track layout as it has been for the past two decades, while the 2018 era features the partial double-tracking of the route to Wrexham, and the newly bi-directional Halton Curve (which for many years could only be used in one direction).
Most of the lines have only one or two trains an hour, which combine to give a reasonably busy service at Chester, without overwhelming a single player monitoring the rest of the area. Several single line sections add regulating interest as well. As such, it's ideal for a player who's mastered the basics and is looking for more of a challenge.
Chester is a payware simulation- to play beyond a short demo period requires the purchase of a license from the Products area .
