London Midland Region

Introduction

Welcome to Crewe, quite probably SimSig's most requested simulation prior to its release! Crewe sits at the convergence of six routes, with a few more junctions thrown in at the north end for good measure. Each route hosts a broad mix of local, regional and inter-city traffic, and with only five through platforms you'll need to work quickly and accurately to keep everything moving on time. Not only that, but the Crewe station area is essentially duplicated by the 'independent lines', which host the large marshalling yards and though which most freight traffic is routed.

Despite its size and importance, the signalling at Crewe has been upgraded in a very piecemeal fashion over the years. While the immediate station area is controlled by a panel signal box, lever frame boxes (albeit controlling colour light signals) are still in use, while the freight lines are also controlled by several signal boxes, most of which still use absolute block between each other. The cramped layout and close proximity to signal boxes result in some unusual controls and joint efforts to set routes (one box sets the first half of a route, the next finishes it off), all of which have been faithfully replicated. Oh, and there are three level crossings to look after as well!

To aid the single player, a number of options allow the workload to be reduced. A number of different eras are included, allowing simulation from the opening of the PSB in 1985 to the present day.

Crewe is a Payware simulation- to play beyond a short demo period requires the purchase of a license from the Products area .
