Introduction

The third and final part of the large and complex Doncaster PSB area to be released, the simulation places you in control of Panels 2 and 3 of the PSB. Lines from six different directions converge on Doncaster station, and the extensive marshalling yards and freight terminals that lie immediately south of it. Six different eras are simulated, which reflect the changes seen across the UK rail network over the years: several branches serving mines have close and marshalling yard capacity reduces, while the mail and container terminals open and additional infrastructure for passenger traffic is provided. The busy East Coast Main Line serves as the spine of the area, with equally busy branches to Leeds and Sheffield diverging to the west. To the east, lines to north and south Lincolnshire diverge, which tend to see more freight traffic. Additionally, there are two bypass lines allowing freight traffic to bypass the station area.

The area is busy with inter-city passenger traffic (some of which does not call at Doncaster), regional and local stopping services. Doncaster is also the last regulation opportunity on several routes for some distance, so while a bad decision may not affect you, it will certainly affect your colleagues in a multiplayer session. Large amounts of freight traffic originate or recess in the many yards around Doncaster, in addition to through services. There are also workings to and from the various maintenance sheds and overhaul works in the area.

The remainder of Doncaster PSB is simulated in the Doncaster North and Doncaster South simulations.
