OTM and OTP

OTM - On Track Machine. These are trains which are used for maintaining the track, and are allowed to travel on the network between possesions. Machines include:

• Track stabalisers
• Tampers- these machines force ballast under and around sleepers to prevent them moving excessively when a train passes over them.
• Ballast cleaner- this train replaces worn ballast (which does not hold track in position very well) with new ballast, and removes impurities, such as sand from ballast that has erroded.
• Track relayers
• Railgrinders- Restores the profile of the rail, resulting in a smoother ride.
• Stoneblower- similar to a tamper, although it uses finer grade ballast.
• Cranes.
• Snowploughs.

OTP- On Track Plant These are machines that are only allowed within possessions, and are moved from site to site by road.
