A point is a piece of trackwork that allows a train to switch tracks. It is also called a turnout or a switch.
The two positions of the point blades are usually "Normal" and "Reverse"; Normal being the points set to the main (usually straight) route, and Reverse is set for the diverging route. Some countries simply call the positions Left and Right.
