This is an attempt to reproduce the passenger timetable shown in the 1922 Bradshaw Guide as reprinted by David & Charles running over the present layout of SimSig.
Bridgwater - there is one slip coach, which is detached at Bridgwater and then has to be taken to a siding at Up Yard
Highbridge - there is one through train to Burnham
Weston-Super-Mare. For trains which start or terminate at Weston, I have used the up siding, and CEGB as a down siding.
I have include one train that started at Locking Road - there were many other extras which did so.
Yatton - many trains ran through Yatton to the other branches. These have been simulated by running an enpty stock train to/from Weston super Mare.
Parson Street and Bedminster had not yet been quadrupled in 1922, so you should avoid using the Up Relief line.
Bristol Temple Meads GWR - I have used Bath Road as the GWR engine shed, and Pylle Hill and Bristol East as the coach sidings. This leads to massive congestion as the Up Through line is the only sure way of getting from Bath Road to Pylle Hill. Most of the timetable is workable (just) provided you give priority to light engines and empty stock to get to their departure platforms on time. In 1922 there were only the up and down platforms (currently 3/4 and 5/6) and a very narrow island platform between. I have used 3/4 as the Up, 9/10 as the down, and 5/6 and 7/8 as the island platforms to give a reasonable simulation. 11/12 and the Parcels platform (13) should not be used.
I think platform 1, the up bay existed, as well as platform 2, the down bay - but 2 is not really useable in SimSig.
In 1922, particularly in the summer there was congestion, particularly west of Bristol in the afternoon, with relief trains and specials not being able to find a free slot. I haven't added extra trains (yet...)
Bristol Temple Meads Midland - the Brunel engine shed was in use, so I have sent many Midland trains to HLS. There is no ID berth on SimSig, so you will have to watch carefully for engine and shunting movements.
I have used Barton Hill South for both the carriage sidings and the route to Fishponds.
Clifton Down and the Avonmouth line are a nightmare and cannot really be operated according to this timetable on a single line.
Suggestions - either delete alternate trains, or for the non-professional signallers, allow two trains in section and simulate passing by amending train IDs when they meet. Not recommended for anyone who is likely to ever operate a real panel.
Narroways Hill Junction - the Fishponds line has been simulated by using Barrow Road RTS. It clogs up the junction with the main line, which the bridge over Narroways Hill avoided, but there is nowhere else to use on SimSig.
Brislington line is simulated using Victoria Road sidings, as it works with Bristol East Junction.
Bath Spa - as there is nothing available to use at Bath, I have run empty stock from Pylle Hill or Bristol East to form trains starting from Bath. One train (2M10 has to run off timetable to the Up loop at Bathampton junction off timetable to allow teo others to pass. This effectively simulates the up bay platform.
Avonmouth - I have used platform 1 and 2 for terminating trains.
A little SimSig bug means that terminating trains running into platform 1 stop with a wrong route error. To continue, you need to remove the train from its TT until it passes the loop junction.
A similar error hits any train to Avonmouth via Filton Junction and Henbury - again you need to remove it from timetable to enable it to pass Narroways Junction.
Bristol Parkway did not exist in 1922.
One morning train needs to run wrong line from Pilning to Filton Junction.
The Midland line reappears at Westerligh Oil Timetable. Timetable rules have been included to allow for the timing from Bristol to Westerleigh via Fishponds.
No freight included (yet...)
This TT should link with Exeter, Westbury and Gloucester.
I have tried running all four together but it needs a multiplayer session to test the links thoroughly.
Please report bugs, comments and suggestions via the Simsig forum or to me at
tony.reese@mail.com
tony001234 on skype
