A simulation based on the timetable for July 1987.
Hours of operation: 05.45 - 23.59. 322 trains in timetable.
Compared to the 1977 simulation, freight has decreased dramatically, but passenger traffic has increased, particularly on the Macclesfield line. That enjoys an unprecedented rush-hour service and frequent daytime use of the loop at Macclesfield in both directions.
The quarter-hourly EMU service on the Crewe line survives, but the pattern of destinations and reversals at Alderley Edge has changed significantly. Operators need to be on their toes both there and at Cheadle Hulme where the first train approaching may not be the first timetabled through the junction. One EMU stables overnight at Alderley Edge.
