Decisions for days of the week. 08/04/2023 at 07:55 #151090

I’m just after a bit of clarification regarding using Decisions for day of the week in a timetable. I’ve read the description in the online manual and I think I get it, but…

So, I’ve got a new timetable with a bunch of trains that recur on multiple days, but may be different on one of the days. So I have two base timetables, say one for Monday, and another that recurs Tuesday to Friday. I’ve got a Decision for days of the week with choices Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri. That decision is for all trains that vary by days of the week, and happens at start up, because it includes seed trains.

If I understand right, the Monday only version of train 1234 will have the “day of the week” decision and “Mon” choice, and it will run when “Mon” gets picked. So far, so good.

For Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, can I have a single train 1234 with the “day of the week” decision, but in the choice box I can put “[any] Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri”, and that train will run on any of those days? Otherwise I’d have to have four identical 1234 trains, each with a day of the week choice.

Is that correct?

Yes

Or you could use [not] Mon as well.

When you are not sure about how things work it is often helpful to look at another TT where the same situation applies and is known to work. You could look at a lot of Joe's (@jc92) timetables, the Carlisle 79 TT etc. etc.

Excellent, thanks.

I’m on a learning curve with timetable creation, working on my second now. I’m all for borrowing good ideas, but I’m not sure I’ve got any of Joe’s efforts. Might have his Exeter 1981.

Drew in the last paragraph of your first post you mention using choice' [any] Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri'. I tend to use the other way of doing it which is alot easier by putting in the choice box '[not] Mon. Saves alot of typing.

Yep, I'm coming around to the [not] typing extra stuff point of view quite rapidly.

Exeter isn't mine. North Wales coast has DOTW choices, but I'd suggest Carlisle is the best one to have a look at. I'm not sure if [not] was used but I like it as its less effort sometimes if the train runs 3 or 4 days a week.

The summer 2007 v4.6 default TT for Westbury has some decisions, but did not use an explicit DotW.
However decision TAU has the various decision combinations applied to the 6Cxx trains

It is one of mine.
