Changing a page's URL 19/11/2011 at 09:11 #23266

Anyone know how to change a page's URL path?

For example:
http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack:ttuse:ttrules

Contains a surplus step ttuse which is a page that does not exist and does not need to exist so it'd be neater just to remove all reference to it. That's easy in the links you just delete the bit but you also need to designate the target page.

When all else fails, one solution might be to create a new blank page where you want it to be, copy the contents of the old page to it and then delete the old page. But you'd also have to be careful to find and edit all links to the old page so that they point to the new page.

The Wiki syntax page, Internal Links section, contains additional links to the Namespaces page and others which I found helpful for this kind of thing.

That's pretty much as I feared so maybe best lived with.

I did see an explanation somewhere of why DokuWiki doesn't have a simple page renaming option, with all internal links updating towards it, but I can't remember what it said.

Anyway, the steps I take:
1. Find all pages that link to this page.
2. Edit those pages to point to the new page.
3. Edit and copy the text out of this page.
4. Edit and paste the text into the new page.
5. Save.
6. Check that 4 and 5 really worked.
7. Delete the text of the original page.

The last step effectively removes the page, though I think it may remember previous revisions were it to be revived.

As with above seems to be the only solution.

Indeed it should do, so may be justification to add in the edit note that page shouldn't be revived (edit reverted) and/or mentioning the new page name if one wanted to do so.
