Why can I not set a route between signals 627 and 83?



I'm sure there's a sensible explanation - but I can't begin to wonder why!

Without digging the Sim out I know that the only route in is from 324, so I presume the only route out is to 481. Why that is the case is one for Network Rail.

becuase thats how it is in real life (short answer)

the connection was only ever set up for trains to be signalled from and to the releif lines at norton fitzwarren, i assume becuase of the slow speed of trains approaching, and their ad hoc timetabling arrangements, to prevent a signalman stopping the job with a railtour or stock movement waiting to go onto the WSR. possibly cost also came into it as the less routes, the cheaper the installation, i beleive this has actually been altered recently (?) when the LC was removed and the area was partially altered

That makes sense - thanks.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't me "ballsing it up" - the Timetable I am running (Summer Saturday in Devon) had 6xxx entering from WSR with the next Location being Taunton P4, which as I found out is not possible. So just a small TT error, then

For the last WSR diesel, sorry mixed traffic, gala, FGW ran a special train from Bristol running to Bishops Lydeard, and this still went in and out via the relief line and platform 2. So it seems this is still the way it is!

It is documented in the sim manual, BTW! ;)

I did have a look at the manual, and saw that you couldn't but I didn't see any reason why you couldn't. Now that I know the answer is as simple as "because you can't" I do feel a bit silly ;D

I believe another possible reason why trains to/from WSR must use the relief line and platform 2 at Taunton, (Gathered from the NR Sectional Appendix and the Signalling Atlas & Signal Box Directory), is that there is a token instrument for the Bishop Lydeard-Norton Fitzwarren single line in a cabinet on Platform 2, which has to be collected by the Conductor Driver before a movement can be made onto the Single Line.

I wouldn't feel silly about asking, I'd say it's a fair question to ask. I'd also say it's comparable to a previous question once asked about the autos for Signals 19 and 62 located near Parson Street on the Bristol simulation - in that case there used to be a junction there, so...

I'm playing that one too currently. Yep, you have to route it via sig 481 and Taunton's P2 which means of course 'wrong platform' but that's just the way that the timetable was written. One specific anomaly I found was the train that forms the 10am departure out of Barnstaple, what did you do there because when I went through that time there was no train to form that service?

I've just noticed that when you set a route from E627 to E481, you get a green aspect even when E481 is at danger. I have looked to find an explanation but so far and there's nothing in the sim manual or on the forum. I am running the loader 4.0.28 on Exeter 4.3.1

Confirmed.



Just thinking about the reason for this thread. Why don't we get the message "No route between selected signals" when trying to set a route between 627 and 83, or between any other two locations not in the sim database? That would have obviated the need for this thread.

Note also that Silk Mill LC barriers are permanently down (see manual).

The pre-loader version displays a yellow aspect. Isn't/was not E627 a mechanical signal?

E627 is a R/G 2 aspect colour light. Yellow not required due to low linespeed and sighting on 481. I'm sure Lazzer and/or Stephen Fulcher can go into more detail.

While I sign most of the stuff you can see in the Taunton area on Simsig, the bits I don't sign are Fairwater Yard, the adjacent reception line, and the road onto the West Somerset Railway past signal 324, which means I don't sign the road back out from signal 627.

I've never taken much notice of 627, except to note that it is always red when I drive past it, as I'd expect!

all done. also added an additional note regarding routing trains out of WSR/Cider siding to 481 only. there was no mention of it on the panel operation page.
