Following a comment in the ShoutBox I'd thought I'd sum up the info on the forum. A reference was made to Stafford having ARS because of a certain feature it contains. I can confirm it does not. ARS is a system the presets a trains route automatically ahead of it based on the trains timetable in order to keep green signals for it to run on. This does not happen in Stafford. Stafford signalling is all done by the signaler. What Stafford has is a feature called Long Routes. Usually route setting in Simsig is done by clicking a route from signal A to signal B then from signal B to C, and then from C to D. In Stafford, some of this is simplified as you can set a route directly from signal A to D. The internal logic then sets A-B, B-C and C-D. It's still done by the signaler and it's but saves you a couple of mouse clicks.... There are multiple long routes throughout the sim and when I checked the data, there were way more combinations than I originally thought (just goes to show how long it's been since I played it!!!). Here's the entire list for those that are interested... Tamworth - S779->S789, S781->S789, S786-S776, S786->S774 Lichfield - S801->S901, S801->S821, S807->S901, S828->S812, S828->S804, S828->S800 Armitage - S909->S921, S909->S923 Rugeley - S929->S945, S931->S947, S944->S924, S946->S926, S940->SBS52, S942-?SBS52 Colwich - S953->S961, S9531->S1801, S955->S961, S955->S1801, S956->S950, S956->S948, S958->S950, S958->S948 Milford - S965->S1003, S969->S1003 Stafford (South Thru) - S1009->S1041, S1009->S1043, S1011->S1041, S1011->S1043, S1021->S1041, S1021->S1043, S1023->S1043, S1013->S1043 (Platforms) - S1009->S1025, S1009->S1027, S1009->S1029, S1009->S1031, S1009->S1033, S1009->S1035, S1011->S1025, S1011->S1027, S1011->S1029, S1011->S1031, S1011->S1033, S1011->S1035, S1013->S1025, S1013->S1027, S1013->S1029, S1013->S1031, S1013->S1033, S1013->S1035 (Down Thru) - S1044->S1014, S1044->S1012, S1044->S1008, S1044->S2056, S1044->S1002, S1044->S1000, S1042->S1012, S1042->S1008, S1042->S2056, S1042->S1002, S1042->S1000, S1048->S1014, S1048->S1012, S1048->S1008, S1048->S2056, S1048->S1002, S1048->S1000, S1046->S1012, S1046->S1008, S1046->S2056, S1046->S1002, S1046->S1000 (Platforms) - S1048->S1030, S1048->S1028, S1048->S1026, S1048->S1024, S1048->S1022, S1046->S1030, S1046->S1028, S1046->S1026, S1046->S1024, S1046->S1022, S1048->S1030, S1048->S1028, S1048->S1026, S1048->S1024, S1048->S1022 (From Platforms) - S1030->S1008, S1030->S1002, S1030->S1000, S1030-S2056, S1028->S1008, S1028->S1002, S1028->S1000, S1028-S2056, S1026->S1008, S1026->S1002, S1026->S1000, S1026-S2056, S1024->S1008, S1024->S1002, S1024->S1000, S1024-S2056, S1022->S1008, S1022->S1002, S1022->S1000, S1022-S2056 Rickerscote - S1012->S2056 Norton Bridge - S1069->S2261, S1071->S2261, S1086->S1068, S1086->S1066, S1084->S1068, S1084->S1066 Madeley - S1152->S1142, S1139->SC1 Stone - S2267->SC1 A can't say if these actually all work but that is the entire list from the sims data. is this a "real" thing that is/was installed in actual boxes or is it something created for SimSig to make the job easier?

There are people better qualified than me to answer this but as far as I know, yes, they are a "real" thing.

However, whether a particular *area* has them is all down to whether somebody wrote the data. SimSig Boss Log in to reply The following user said thank you: jc92 |

Thank you for posting this information. As it was myself whose comments prompted this thread I should mention that, in hindsight, I perhaps shouldn't have used the term ARS. However, to this layperson, as Stafford has some ARS coding (i.e. Train Descriptions can be shown in delay mode if this is set as default) then long routes may have something to do with ARS coding. Obviously incorrect and I apologise for any confusion which may have arisen. However my description (albeit erroneous) seemed to steer HST125Scorton on the right path to solving his problem. SIMIS-W also has long routes. (Bournemouth and Portsmouth)

Most of the routes Lardybiker listed are indeed working: I haven't yet found one in his list that is not working. edit: can't find S812 at Lichfield on the signalling diagram - I suppose it's the signal towards Lichfield High Level? That one indeed supports a long route from S828 (via S820). Rugeley lacks long routes. AJP in games Last edited: 11/08/2012 at 14:51 by Albert Log in to reply |

There are definitely long routes listed for Rugeley in the data and I listed them. Are you saying that they don't work? S812 is the external (greyed out) signal on the chord between the low-level and high level. Last edited: 11/08/2012 at 17:20 by Lardybiker Log in to reply |

Two issues coming up in this discussion? Long routes can be included in relay interlockings - Waterloo (Wimbledon) has a number. It could of course be the panel processor that calls the underlying short routes. (Unfortunately I don't have any contacts there but I'd imagine if it's done by the panel processor the route lights for each short route will illuminate in turn after the long route is called (but it might not of course). I have a set of "instructions to signalmen" issued when the panel was commissioned but it doesn't go into that sort of detail.) I rather think there are no long routes in the real Stafford - with the exception of Stone, Norton Bridge & Rugeley/Armitage it simulates an area worked by mechanical frames (Stafford Station itself still is) and even routes (as understood by signal engineers) don't exist. In updated version 3.0.14, the long route from CH18 (DF at Colwich Jn) to CH114 (Dn Stoke) erroneously sets route CH18 -> CH23 -> SD4-225 (DM).

Do long routes actually exist in the real Colwich RRI? Stafford is worked by mechanical frames so I cannot see how they can work there. Log in to reply |
