i have no idea keith, it was a ground frame in an older life, i suspect its of ER origin, darley dale is very much a "practical" box, ie a mish mash of kit that does the job, rather than any faithful recreation.

an external view of the box. this box was originally located at gorsey bank LC on the wirkswirth branch before moving to buxton and finally church lane. the road crossing the line is actually now church ROAD but the box retains the traditional title of its predecessor Post has attachments. a view towards the south (up) No8 points can be seen as can no14 signal (on the bracket, which came from seamer Jcn box after it received a panel.) in the foreground is No13 which is a non block signal protecting the crossing only. you may spot the pointwork on the down line. this is controlled by an intermediate ground frame released by darley dale box (lever 6)and runs into darley dale north yard which is due to be closed. the Br "penquin" block instrument at darley dale. note that the ER had a tendency to reverse the top two modules so the white module was sandwiched inside two black modules. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

the last one from me i promise! the train register book at darley dale. for anyone who hasnt seen or heard of these, every signal box has one of these (or an occurence book) to note down the times of all telephone calls, bell signals sent, and the times at which trains pass the box. it is an important document which can be used in incident investigations. an example of such an event was at collyhurst jcn manchester when the inspector concurred from the train register, that the signalman at said box had accepted a train in violation of its clearing point, leading to a collision. the inspector also concurred that plenty of negligent slack working was taking place, which was dealt with as a separate matter.
