Where to hold early trains at Westbury West (Reverse)? 30/06/2013 at 14:09 #46185

0O36, bound for Westbury Down Yard, arrives at Westbury DN REC 25 mins early. Its TT calls for it to reverse at "WESTBURY WEST (REVERSE)" change ends and after 3 mins depart for the DN YARD. The question is, where to put it while it reverses? I seem to have 3 choices:

1) On the SALISBURY DOWN line;
2) On the WESTBURY DOWN line;
3) On SALISBURY SPUR, not really a reversing point but "out of the way".

Choice 1 and 2 run the risk that other traffic may turn up during the 25 mins wait.

What is the best course of action? Thanks.

Salisbury Spur is the best place to reverse it, there'll be no length issues with it being a light engine, it's out of the way and the train will accept the route and reversing point.

Alternatively, hold it in the DN REC for 20 minutes and await developments.

Being a light engine, there's also a chance that the train will depart as soon as it's ready, and not necessarily wait for time.

In real life, the driver almost certainly wouldn't hang around and would move off as soon as he changed ends. To force this in the simulation, edit the timetable via F2 to either set the departure time to 00:00 (I'm fairly sure late train penalty points are disabled for this time), or change the stop to a Set Down stop.

Assuming you're referring to the 2007 timetable, I'd hold it on the DN REC until its scheduled passing time, before reversing it on the Salisbury spur- at least that way it won't impact passenger traffic.

Have you checked the simplifier (F8)? It looks like the next train for the DN REC is 6B651, which isn't due until 05:30, so it should be out of the way if you hold it there?

Thanks Ben for replying. I hadn't thought of the Simplifier. However, Westbury DN REC isn't in the list (Salisbury Spur is), and anyway I can't find the Refresh button, even after dragging down the bottom edge of the Simplifier window!

In case you are able to locate the Refresh button, select 'Westbury' in the list, and for the DN REC line select platform 'DR'.

I always reverse trains at Westbury West on the Down Salisbury. The Salsibury Spur is a location in it,s own right and is not Westbury West. If you signal the emgine into the Salisbury Spur and that is not the next location on the schedule it will keep going to the Buffer stops and stop without changing direction.
If you want the train to move from Westbury West before it,s booked time, go into the Train List (F2), check that it s facing the correct direction (up) and highlight the next location below Westbury West and click on the tab "set current/next location" to start it rolling.
There is also a location called "Westbury West Near (Rev) but I havn,t got round to working out where it is.

Just tested and a train booked to Westbury West Reverse accepts a route to Salisbury Spur and will reverse with no ill-effects.

EDIT: It is even possible to select SALS as a platform at Westbury West Reverse in the TT editor.

F8 Westbury DN REC is shown as a platform (DR) location attached to Westbury Station.

Max, Strange! Can you not resize the window by right clicking the top lefthand button on the Simplifier?

The missing refresh button is a known issue in sims with a simplifier, discussed previously on the forum and on the wiki in relation to the Brighton sim.
