Sometimes it's very handy to be able to bring up a train's timetable while in the Train List (F2), so I'd like to request that a Display Timetable option be added to the Timetable Options context menu.

I proposed something similar in One-step jump from Timetable List to Location List but I guess simply doing it with one double-click was a bit too novel at the time.

I know that one can achieve the same end by going into Edit Timetable, then clicking Location List, but that method is for those "in the know" and will not instill confidence in newbies learning to play SimSig who are reluctant to Edit Timetable in case they screw up the sim. I don't know whether the Location List window updates in the way Show Timetable does, but a Show Timetable option is definitely needed IMO, preferably just above the Edit Timetable option.

Please give this your consideration.

f2 > Left click to view timetable. Just had a look and seems to be something that'd not interfere with anything else you do in f2, so seems a good suggestion.

Certainly shortens it by two steps from having to open the R-click context menu for that train, then select "Show Timetable" from the Timetable options. But how would you publicise this shortcut, as most people expect to have to open a context menu? There might have to be a brief note near the top of the F2 window.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, we still need Geoff to decide whether it's possible and if so whether to add it; however I'm sure an update to the Wiki will suffice.

So with this shortcut in place, we would theoretically be able to open the Train List with F2, locate the train in question, hover over it and double-click it to bring up Show Timetable!

What I thought was find a train on f2 and instead of right clicking and getting the menu you left clicked and get the TT pop-up. At least that's what I thought you were asking for in principle and my interpretation of what might work. What will come of this request and my suggested solution time will tell. I've logged it as a wish-list item.

Perhaps double-click instead of single-click? I sometimes use single-click to just select the item in the list, so I can look away for a moment and quickly find the train of interest when I look back, since the selected item is highlighted with a distinctive blue background.

In my original post I proposed adding Show Timetable to the RH context menu of a train selected by left-clicking within the Train List. It seems standard practice to select an object (train) in a window list (Train List) by left-clicking it, which highlights it. Right clicking the selection opens the context menu. My guess is that most people will want to show a train's timetable by clicking it in the View window rather than in the Train list (which theoretically should not be available to signallers in real life).

However, it may well change one's workflow if L-clicking a selected train brings up its timetable, tantamount to double-clicking it.

On the other hand, this is a very powerful shortcut which should not be allocated lightly. A while ago I believe I suggested that L-clicking a train selected in the Train List should cause the View panel to jump to the selected train. This would not only be invaluable to those still learning the territory, it could resolve discrepancies about headcodes! IMO this is a better allocation for this shortcut than simply bringing up the current timetable, which can be a context menu item.
