Random entry trains across sim boundaries 19/04/2015 at 21:08 #71249

I am thinking of adding an extra train or two to a timetable that I am testing but I am not quite sure how to do it. I want the train to run through sim A and when it gets to sim B I would like it to go in one of three random directions.

Now, if the sims are being played solo then it's easy. Sim A just needs one copy of the train to run every day, and sim B needs a rule that says 6Z05A 6Z05B and 6Z05C are alternatives. However, how do I write the trains to work if the two sims are chained? Will sim B still make the random decision if it sees 6Z05 (no letter) or is it more complicated?

You will need three trains on sim A

So 6Z05A B and C on both sims? That's fairly straightforward.

Thanks Noel.

It should work if you create 3 trains (same TD but different UIDs if you like) on each Sim and you can have the same randomisation on each because when chained whichever is created on A will be the one that appears on B regardless of any randomisation on B.

The next complication is that one of the trains can't run on certain days of the week (don't ask).

I have a rule that says "$6Z05? are alternatives" and this randomly picks one of the three trains $6Z05A $6Z05B or $6Z05C to run. However, the C train can't run Mon, Wed or Fri and I can't work out how to do the rules without the sim cancelling the C train on Mon, Wed and Fri (there is a "day of the week engine 0Z00MON, TUE, WED etc) and not running either the A or B train.

What's the best way to arrange things so that I get a random train and something runs on each day of the week, but the C train doesn't turn up when it's not supposed to?

I've sussed out how to do this now. I had to adjust my requirements so that the train always has the C path on Tuesday and Thursday, and gets a random A or B on Mon, Wed & Fri.

We have three trains, 6Z05A (runs MWF), 6Z05B (runs MWF) and 6Z05C (runs TTH). There are half a dozen or so rules:

6Z05A must not run if 0Z00TUE is running
6Z05B must not run if 0Z00TUE is running
6Z05A must not run if 0Z00THU is running
6Z05B must not run if 0Z00THU is running
6Z05A and 6Z05B are alternatives

6Z05C must not run if 0Z00MON is running
6Z05C must not run if 0Z00WED is running
6Z05C must not run if 0Z00FRI is running

I tried doing a couple of rules with Wildcards (eg 6Z05A must not run if 0Z00T?? is running) but the analyser didn't like that!
