I have routed a Down train ex EHMEMUD to Upminster via P8 & Up Conn @ Barking to get ahead of 5G86 which is also heading to Upminster via the Down Conn. Is it correct that 2209pts should be locked Normal when a route from P8 is set through 2210/2211 crossover in Reverse? Oops, fixed. The single ended thing is a supposed reduction in failures causing problems - if the failed end is on the other line and trailing and not otherwise protecting then it can be undetected.

Queensland Rail have introduced "Health Monitored" crossovers into the Brisbane metro area for the same reason. Operationally speaking, these are normal, double ended crossovers. The point motors at each end work off the same circuit (including swing-nose V's and switchable 'K' crossings, where applicable) and keying one end will also lock the other end - just like a normal crossover. However, each end is detected independently so that only the track with the failed points is adversely affected. Where a crossover has a diamond crossing half-way through it (typical quad track crossover) and the diamond is of the switchable variety, it, too, is independently monitored. Not fat ..... fluffy!!
