I'm going to be visiting the last three, but not Brisbane, I'm afraid (just Cairns). Are there others elsewhere?Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Singleton, Taree, Melbourne (Maxand warning!!), Adelaide. When I've got my timetable firmed up, I'll suggest dates for some evening mini-meets. Nobody in Perth or Hobart? Quote: Are you aware how many people have already told me that?!?!? I'm already spending 6 weeks in Australia; I don't have time to add any more countries and SWMBO has forbidden it anyway. Did you know that Perth to Auckland is far longer than Perth to Sydney (5348 km by air as opposed to 3284 km)? And SYD-AUK is an even longer international flight: 11409 km (AUK is Alakanuk in Alaska; Auckland is AKL). Log in to reply |

Welcome to Australia. Due to many other commitments, November is a bit further down the track than I'm prepared to plan right now, but if a venue is planned there, msg me or post here closer to the time and I'll see what I can do to help (as many of you know, I live in Melbourne). Don't expect the Metro trains to stop at our station if they're running late!

Max, Whether or not we have an actual meet there (are there other simmers in the area?), I expect to have a drink with you and attempt to figure out what you're doing wrong (which may require more than one drink!). Log in to reply The following user said thank you: maxand |

Okay, time to firm these meetings up. Evening meetings: I'm expecting locals to suggest a good place (email me if you want my hotel details). I'm assuming around 6pm local time (I don't know what time people typically meet for food and drink in the evenings in Oz). Sydney area: Monday 23rd November somewhere in Newcastle NSW. This town was chosen by mattyq et al. Melbourne: Tuesday 17th or Wednesday 18th November, depending on what maxand can do. Adelaide: Friday 6th November. Not too late, because I'll be off the Indian Pacific and have an early start for something else the next morning. Log in to reply |

Unfortunately I can't make Newcastle for an evening meal ( I live south of Sydney ). But I'm sure you will have an interesting trip. The Indian pacific is a memorable journey.

I'll see you in Newcastle if necessary. It's only 264kms from Yagoona (201 miles). I've gone further to buy a newspaper.

Thanks Clive for inviting me. I'm not sure what the future holds for me and the actual date is unimportant, but if I'm still around I'll PM you and let you know how things are going. At present they look rather uncertain.

" said:Just don't try to meet at Sydney Central Station any time soon. Sounds like there has been a decent blaze there...It was pretty serious, hopefully the building isn't damaged too badly. http://imgur.com/0VgJwZU http://imgur.com/vHeerjv Apparently it started in the Hungry Jacks and spread through the air conditioning. Entire main concourse evacuated, and platforms 1-15 shut in the terminal. The suburban platforms 16-23 were still running though, so everything except the intercity service was alright, as far as I know. Last edited: 26/09/2015 at 11:54 by flabberdacks Log in to reply |

" said:It was pretty serious, hopefully the building isn't damaged too badly.Which shows how flexible the station is, as the Intercities probably swapped to the North Shore Platforms at Central (16 and 18) and continued to North Sydney to bounce back from there. Thank you for posting these diagrams. All we need now is a sim to signal! Log in to reply |

If Simsig were to go International, I would say Sydney Central would be the sim to do. Very intensive operation that one. I have plenty more where those diagrams came from... Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Log in to reply |

I'd be bouncing like a child at Christmas if I knew we were getting a sim of Sydney. Very flexible working and an enormous number of trains on the standard timetable.

PC Rail did one of the area between Homebush and Lidcombe including Olympic Park, which I still have. To be honest though it is very basic and not very accurate, and its not the most interesting part of Sydney - even Strathfield would have been an improvement. Additionally, since the Bankstown Line now terminates at the new Dock Platform at Lidcombe, the current timetable post 201e doesnt work on that sim anyway. Sydney Central is about on par with Waterloo in terms of intensive train operations so it is damn busy. Whilst unlikely to make it to Simsig Status, I do have some drawings should someone be keen to take this challenge on. One can think wishfully! Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Yeah, I have that PCRail sim, it's actually not that great - Flemington Car Sidings isn't simulated at all (there's a controlled area inside the sheds much like Clapham Yard) and the freight lines are simplified too. They haven't been able to adjust their sim to cope with our interlocking design, so you end up with signals changing aspects in front of trains when a conflicting route is set further ahead. Also Olympic Park panel and the junction near platforms 3/4 at Lidcombe both have ARS, which isn't reflected in the PCRail sim. Not complaining that someone's gone to the effort of making it, just saying that SimSig's attention to detail would do it a lot better. Log in to reply |
