My idea is to implement UPNP (universal plug and play) into multilayer with NAT traversal, a feature found on many routers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play#NAT_traversal

What this does in simple terms is enable ports to be forwarded by the application as they are needed with no prior setup required. This means people will no longer need to manually port forward and then reboot thier router for the changes to take effect.

This will be helpful for many people who either don't have the technical know how to do port forwarding manually or are simply unable to due to not having access to the router or unable to port forward and have it stay there. This would allow many more people to host their games online for others to join and assist.

The way i used to host ArmA 3 servers and run them for other people to join was UPNP as it was seamless from wanting to start the server to running the game and hosting where people could automatically connect. Port forwarding would have meant setting up a service that my dad would see and then remove each time.

SamTDS - STDS | My comments are my opinions and interpretations and do not reflect on the wonderfull SimSig team. I am in no way part of the team.

As long as those who currently have PF set up can keep it that way?

I had a ball-ache setting it up in the first place....& had to be talked through it by admins! Rather not fiddle about again.

The Welsh contingent. Aron, or Ar to mates. Also known as 88E or ThatManCalledAr.

existing port forwarding will work as normal. at home i have upnp enabled for games such as ArmA 3 and fixed port forwarding for various different devices
