I'm currently writing a timetable where it spans two era's on a sim. Is it possible to add a decision for a train to run based on era so I can create one timetable which will run in either era, or are two seperate timetables still required?

Yes, it's possible.

See "Special Decisions" on the wiki page ttdecisions.

Thanks Clive I didn't know if those extended to eras.

Follow up question - can more than one decision be specified for a train. It doesn't seem so but its worth asking.

Example: I have a train that I only want to enter on a Monday AND should only enter in the old era. Can I specify both those decisions or only one.

What I've done in similar circumstances in the past is to try and find a MO train which enters earlier in the TT (preferably a seed so delays don't interfere) and set a rule not to enter until 0 minutes after the first train enters instead of a second decision.
