ARS operation is useful and does make train operation easier, especially on an extensive and busy simulation such as Marylebone. I do have one observation to make with regard to the use of ARS; whilst it is helpful, it is not a tool to be relied on for train regulation. I have noticed that ARS does not regulate train services particularly well and if vigilance is not exercised, train services will be in disorder quite quickly. As an example, trains stopping at South Ruislip are routed back on to the main line by ARS, almost immediately, even though they are booked to stop there to allow other services to pass ahead of them. There are other places where the ARS system permits movements which will foul up the train service if a careful watch is not observed! I presume this has been discussed before and, no doubt, it will be pointed out that it was never intended that ARS would do all the work and vigilance is required by the game player to ensure good running of the train service.

Completely correct - ARS is a means of helping the signaller by performing routesetting and interposing new headcodes when a train arrives at its destination - indeed it says exactly that in the manual
