Hi,

In 2017 Era, I note that D829 at the approach to Shaftholme from Marshgate, approach cleared to YY when route was set on the Down Knottingley.

D847 is shown as green so this seems unusual. Is this common behaviour?

Thanks
Jamie

It's not that unusual in the Eastern region - and is correct in this case. I'll add another note to the manual though.

I'd be grateful if someone could explain the logic of turnout signals clearing to YY on approach when the signal in advance is green, especially with slow turnouts such as Shaftholme and Dore? Especially when there are higher-speed turnouts such as Swinton-Mexborough which clear to Y. What does YY mean in this situation please?

Thanks
Jamie

Swinton- Mexborough steps up to a green (if appropriate) when a train approaches, as is standard for flashing yellow sequences.

I can only assume the YY is to reduce the risk of a driver seeing the signal step to green and accelerating away under the false assumption that they're signalled on the mains.

Yes, that makes some sense - although clearing to YY rather than to Y instinctively feels less safe somehow.

I didn't spot Swinton clearing, must always have been too busy elsewhere
