Hi, just saying hello. I have played train simulator for a while now and saw this mentioned in a couple of forums so just thought I would give it a go!

Howdy there. I've seen this game from multiple YouTube videos; I figured it'd be a good way to burn some time whenever I'm not busy.

Hello, I played SimSig a few years ago (big fan of Peterborough). Looking forward to getting back into it. In the real world I work for a TOC and can be found in the Control room. Log in to reply |

Evening all. James here, new to this simulator. I'm more of a driver (TS2017 is my sim), but saw this on Facebook and thought I would give it a try. I like it so far although I do have an issue. Using the Royston map, I can change points and signals fine except for one shunt signal. It's the shunt signal below where it says "DN.SDG". If I have the down main set to go straight through Royston 2, it's cleared, however, when I set the down main to go into Royston 1, it'll stay red. The points have changed, I've got the white line all the way through to the end of the platform, yet it stays red and I don't know how to change it. Can someone please tell me why it will not clear and how I can make it do so? Thanks in advance, James James F (or JF in game) Log in to reply |

As the author of Royston, I'm feeling rather puzzled since I can't work out what you're referring to or reproduce anything. Firstly, can you tell me which options you have selected on the "Select Options" tab when you're choosing the simulation. Secondly, once the sim is running, you can find out the identity of any signal by right-clicking on it (you might need to hold SHIFT while doing so depending on how you've set up the sim). The way you're describing it, you're talking about setting a route from K977 to K981 or to K983; in one case the shunt signal is lighting up white and in the other it isn't. But which shunt signal? K245? LOS? Neither of them should light up in this circumstance. If you could please describe both the "working" and "not working" situation in a bit more detail, with signal numbers, I can probably tell you what you need to do. Can someone please tell me why it will not clear and how I can make it do so? Thanks in advance,Are you talking about the signal slightly to the right of the letters LOS, which has both a main aspect (red disc) and also a subsidiary aspect (grey triangle) on the same stem? In that case there are two separate things going on at that signal. The first is that it’s a main signal with a subsidiary aspect. The system chooses which aspect to use automatically. Normally you’re only using the main aspect, and the subsidiary will remain grey. If you’re bringing a second train into a platform which already has a train in it (e.g. to join trains), then the subsidiary will be used instead, indicating a call-on route. See <https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:ssrun:types_of_routesetting> for that. The second thing is that, for the route from down main to Royston 1, the signal is approach released. That means it will only go non-red once a train is close to it, warning the driver to slow down. Once it releases, it will release to a main aspect, not a subsidiary. See <https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:glossary:approach_control> for details. Again, this is automatic: you don’t have to do anything, as long as the route is set then the signal will change colour once a train arrives at it. Actually the subsidiary aspect will also be approach released if you use a call-on route, to add further complexity! Again, though, this is automatic and you don’t have to do anything. Good day to all you railway signallers. I am new on the panels after a few years absence. Now that I am retired I can get back into things. My interests in simulations is mostly British with previous interests in Birmingham New Street and Brighton due to places of residence during my stay in Britain. I have always had an interest in railways having been brought up in Canada and travelled coast to coast by train in the 50's. Am now domiciled in New Zealand and have retained railway interests and belong to a model railway club. Let the trains roll. Gary Baxter Log in to reply |
