Newton Heath Loco Siding 19/11/2017 at 21:31 #103087

Trains entering at Newton Heath Loco Siding always cause the message "TRAINID waiting at red signal Newton Heath Loco Siding". This occurs even if the Siding exit signal is showing a proceed aspect. Strangely, the signal no. is not given in the message. Trains entering at the Engine Shed locations don't give the message if the exit signal is showing proceed, but the signal no. is given if the signal is showing red.

Surely this can't be the correct behaviour for the Siding, or am I missing something obvious here?

Behind signal 902, there is another hidden signal which can only clear when a CORRECT route is set from 902, i.e. into the neck or towards the mainline.

You can legitimately leave the route set from from 902 towards the neck all day. This route will never cancel. In reality, the driver/shunter would call up asking to take the route back. With hindsight, I will look into a phone call to this effect, with the signaller requiring to answer the call before the train enters, thus preventing an ACOA that way.

The two Engine Shed locations do not have this because in essence there is no way in which a route can be set all the time, leading to a wrong route.

Thanks for the detailed info, James. However, I always get the "waiting at red signal" message even when I set the route from the Siding to the Main Line well in advance of the train entering the sim. Surely this can't be correct. I would have thought that the "hidden" signal would clear when the Siding Exit signal clears, but obviously it doesn't. Is the hidden signal "Approach Released"? If it is, then the Release Timer may have too high a value resulting in trains always stopping at it before it clears. Perhaps you could provide a little more info on this.

Just a thought: what happens if a train that is timetabled to be routed to the Main Line enters when the route from 902 is already set for the shunt neck? From what you've said above I assume the driver would complain about a wrong route being set from 902. Is that a correct assumption?

Regards,

Lyn

On the last bit first, if the route was already set into the shunt neck, the train would be detained at the hidden signal until the correct route has been set from Signal 902.

On the former, the hidden signal will only clear when a train is approaching it with a correct route set from 902. It looks at this once a second. The hidden track behind the dummy signal I've increased the length of now, which I'd hope would allow time for the signal to clear before the train comes to a stand.

I believe the changes you are making to the dummy signal track length should fix the problem. Thanks for the speedy response to my query.
