6. The “NOEL” Challenge – What is the largest number of consecutive stations without an ‘L’ in the name that a national rail service stops at?

2N27 Brighton To Portsmouth...

East Worthing
Worthing
West Worthing
Durrington On Sea
Goring By Sea
Angmering
Ford
Barnham
Chichester
Havant
Fratton
Portsmouth & Southsea
Portsmouth Harbour

Thats 13... not that I'm obsessed or anything.. just keep having ideas!

Also, would Q9 be Barking. I'm sure there's a flyover there for the LU?
Well done SPADmad. Missing that annoying town of Littlehampton!

Q9. Not Barking as Underground only goes over the LTS lines. The Overground terminates on the north side of the station (until they build the Barking Riverside extension).

Correct JamesN, but still not the station I was thinking of. There seem to be a lot of under utilised platforms around!

Crediton has daily services from both platforms (1 platform for services to Barnstaple/Okehampton; 1 platform for services to Exeter and beyond).

Yeoford, which you might have been thinking of, is on the shared 2 track formation before the two single line branches diverge; but alas the 2nd (Okehampton) platform is presently disused and trains are unable to call. (Indeed it doesn’t even count as a preferred emergency evacuation point!)

According to Realtime trains both platforms are in regular use.

bfcmik,

Oslo & Hangzhou are both correct. The main line services at Stratford are now all on one (upper level). The Jubilee line and DLR are on the lover level.

Antwerp - which looks an amazing station with some rather unusual escalators.

But your question specifically states 'from' one platform, you can get to both, but only depart from one of them (unless the summer trains to Okehampton are running through from platform 1)

8. Which European station has main line platforms on three different levels.?

"Main line" is the restriction that's bothering me, as it's somewhat in the eye of the beholder.

Two candidates are Zürich HB, but that depends on whether you consider the S-bahn tunnel to ZH-Stadelhofen as "main line", and Stuttgart Hbf, but that also depends on how you treat the S-bahn tunnel, and on how far advanced Stuttgart 21 now is.

Or maybe it's something else, such as Madrid Atocha or Chamartin, or, better still, Barcelona Sants. All appear possible.

8.
(as mentioned) Antwerpen-Centraal, Amsterdam Sloterdijk (3-8, 11&12, 9-10), Köln-Deutz (low level, High level and sloping high level)

Zürich HB has more than three, as far as I am concerned, Stuttgart 21 is not nearly finished (2021 was the target (hence the name) but it's now delayed till 2022).

Correct GeoffM,

Antwerp Central has one above ground level and two below ground levels (-7m & -18m).

Sorry, Most trains use Platform 2, but platform 1 at Oban seems to have a regular Sunday departure for Glasgow.
