Loader 4.6.9 saved games will not load 25/01/2018 at 13:45 #105437

I was working Cardiff when the 4.6.9 upgrade arrived. I applied it and the previous day's save from 4.6.7 loaded correctly with the usual version warning.

Two days later I tried to load one of the saves I made with 4.6.9 - the panel layout appears with the 'Please wait' message and the loader entres a loop with the CPU core at 100%.

I tried with a new game, saved it after a few seconds, then reloaded it - same problem.

I repeated the 'New Game' test with Aston (as it's the first in the alphabet) - same problem.

Games saved with earlier loader versions still load correctly in 4.6.9, so it seems there is a problem in the save routine.
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.

I can't reproduce this, I've just loaded a set of save games made last night on four different simulations and all load successfully. All started under and saved under 4.6.9.

If you just leave the sim to load what happens?

Not sure if it would be relevant but did the loader 4.6.9 update complete fully? See https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Forum/ThreadView/47439

As I have to kill the loader after a failed attempt, I've tried more often loading from a clean start than reloading without stopping the loader.

I haven't rebooted my PC since the loader upgrade, so I'll try that next, but as I said, it looks more like a saving problem than a loading problem.

I rebooted the PC and repeated the Save / Load test with the antivirus disabled with the same result.

I renamed SimSigLoader.exe.bak to SimSigLoader.exe to recover 4.6.7 (at least, I suppose it's 4.6.7; the file version is 4.6.0 for both the old and the new, and Help About just says 4.6.

This works OK at loading its own saved files, but the same problem occurs with the files saved by 4.6.9 (a "different version" message is displayed before the program hangs).

Next, I renamed all the .exe.bak files (having first taken copies), so I had a complete 4.6.7 version. Then I redid the update to 4.6.9. There is no diference in the two SimSigLoader.exe files.

Has anyone else version 4.6.9 working on Windows 7 ?

I've not had problems on the latest version running on windows 7. I did however have to do the update via the download link that Geoff provided as the RefresherC kept failing to update.

I've been playing last night/this morning and reloading Snapshot saves fine. Have also tried starting a complete fresh and doing a save (rather than snapshot) and had no issue.

Grahamj42, Can you try this save that I've attached for Ashton (Again chosen cause top of the list and you have it) and let us know what happens?

y10g9, I can load your save with no problems.

I did have the RefresherC problem, which I solved by deleting the SimSigRefresherC.exe.bak file the first time round.
I've since re-run the standard update.

I'll try reinstalling the Simsig system files

This is the link that Geoff put up in the topic about the update. Hope it works for you and let us know how you get on

I don't know why it's failing for a small number of people but working fine for most others. I've updated the installer to V4.6.9 which will get around the issue for the moment while I work out what is going wrong.

y10g9, it's that link that I just downloaded. There is no difference in the file SimSigLoader.exe and the problem is not resolved.

I attach a copy of my latest Aston save with 4.6.9 (named S) and one with 4.6.7 (T).

Perhaps a core developer can see what's wrong.

[Edit] - It seems the backup which the loader left in my SimSig program directory is really 4.6.0 and not 4.6.7, which will pose a problem sooner or later - the log shows that Oxford is incompatible, for example.

I can't open your save made on 4.6.9, but I can't reproduce the issue on another machine.

I get the same problem as grahamj42 with the 4.6.9.save
Get the warning with the 4.6.7 save but loads ok

But can you save a game on 4.6.9 that you've started, then reload it successfully?

I can reproduce and found where it gets stuck.

"Why" is the next question.

Found it.

No prizes for guessing what's wrong with those numbers... I didn't spot it for a long time.

Graham - have you set your machine for a non-English speaking country? I thought we'd fixed all the localization bugs but this is clearly a new one.
