I am currently testing a Groundhog Day TT where a freightliner hauled by a pair of Cl. 86s is losing time massively. The acceleration is set to "low (standard freight)" and the weight to "heavy". Checking the Groundhog Day TT on an adjacent sim shows the accelerations is set to the same value but the weight is shown as normal. This raises two issues. Firstly, what steps are there to make things consistent one GHD TT to another and does the mismatch have any impact when the train is handed over from one sim to the next when there is a chain in place? Secondly, what steps have been taken to ensure that the characteristics match reality. As I understand it, one of the reasons for double-heading the freightliners with pairs of electrics was to improve the acceleration and hill climbing performance nearer to passenger trains standards in order to maximise line capacity. That would mean that the generic characteristics which have presumably been applied to freight workings in the GHD TTs are not appropriate to the particular case of double-headed consists which have been TT'd on the basis of improved acceleration rates and uphill performance. Similarly, there is an instance in the test TT of timber empties from Chirk to Scotland which again loses time massively. The characteristics are set as very low acceleration and heavy consist. That would be understandable for the loaded forward working but seem overly restrictive for the empty back working. Again in terms of impact on adjacent sims, would it have any effect on chained working if the TT I am currently testing was modified to have characteristics reflecting actual performance without similar modification to GHD TTs on other sims? “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following user said thank you: VInce |

Postal, can I just clarify as there are two sets of groundhog timetables done by different teams, is it the more widely released 2009 set, or the 2015 set you are referring to?

I always differentiated between a loaded train and an empty train in the train types so as I could show the as either "heavy" or "normal" Vince I walk around inside the questions of my day, I navigate the inner reaches of my disarray, I pass the altars where fools and thieves hold sway, I wait for night to come and lift this dread away : Jackson Browne - The Night Inside Me Log in to reply |

I would not use "heavy" for a Freightliner, loaded or not, and not in combination with "low". They're meant to be relatively rapid trains. As for consistent consists, these days we have ways of writing one timetable that covers multiple sims so all the characteristics should match between sims. Older timetables not so much. Mismatches between sims when trains transfer is one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" moments. Whether you use this sim's characteristics, or those from the previous sim, is a situation where some people would vote for the former while others would vote for the latter. Neither is particularly wrong or right. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

Neither is particularly wrong or right. Although for speed classes I'd say that they definitively shouldn't transfer (and last time I checked they indeed didn't transfer) because of sim-specific speed classes, whose meaning might vary from sim to sim.
