Hi Folks, just come across this as it was brought to my attention on facebook of all places lol. Is there much difference between donation and payware scenarios? Log in to reply |

Some of the older sims tend not to be actively developed for new features / p-way changes / bug fixes, whereas the newer ones tend to have active development. The price of the sims is designed to compensate the developers (who are volunteers, doing it in their spare time) for their efforts both in making but also in maintaining the sims. If you like a donation-ware sim, donate! From a play perspective, all of the sims in the loader are driven by the same core code and work essentially the same. But each signal box has its own way of handling ground levers, level crossings and other general quirks, reflecting slightly different local practices. Some timetables are included with the sim, and you'll see them when you start the game from the loader (make sure you've pressed the License manager button first on the loader to activate the licences). For some of the older sims, the WTT files are in the old format so don't appear - but this topic covers how to merge the timetables in and save them back to the new format Other timetable (WTT) files contributed by users can be found under Download > Browse > User-Contributed and you can store these in folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\SimSig\Timetables\sim-name to load up in the same manner. That will probably answer a whole lot of the questions that you want to ask. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following user said thank you: scouse4313 |

We expect our developers to put the same amount of effort in, whether the simulation is charged or donationware. It's up to the developer how much, if anything, to charge. So far, I've only charged for one simulation. The rest were first written before we started charging or I didn't see the need to charge (this isn't a dig at anyone else who made a different choice; my circumstances aren't the same as other people's), so they're free. I have three simulations planned or in development (as the regulars will tell you, "it'll be ready when it's ready"). Number 1 is going to be donationware because I made a promise to the late Maxand. Number 2 will be donationware for reasons that will become public when it appears. Number 3 doesn't have any preconditions, so I might charge for it or I might not. But they'll all get the same level of effort put into them (which is one reason why number 1 has been in development for at least 6 years).
