LC accident near Sudbury at Sewage Works Lane UWG http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1303877/Suffolk-train-crash-Tanker-driver-arrested-level-crossing-collision.html It is alleged that the Polish driver of the sewage lorry had not phoned the signalman as instructed. It appears that the train driver and a passenger have sustained critical injuries. I do hope that they will both recover soon. Log in to reply |

Quote:The 17:31 (headcode 2T27) Sudbury to Marks Tey service has been derailed. The train derailed after colliding with a sewage tanker on a user-worked level crossing ("UWC"at Sewage Works Lane between Sudbury and Bures. The above information is taken from http://www.penaltyfareappeal.co.uk/wordpress/?p=1320 at the date/time shown for this post. My thoughts are definitely with the driver of the train and the other passengers who were on-board. I understand from a reliable source that the train driver is being hailed a hero as, after applying the train brakes, he entered the passenger area of the train to warn the passengers of the imminent collision - such a truly selfless act! May I courteously remind everyone not to speculate about this matter unless you know the facts for definite and are allowed to release the information publicly - you are also reminded that this part of the forum is public so you should exercise caution with what you say. Thoughts are most definitely with the Train Driver and Passengers. Doubtless he only had seconds to react and by the sound of things he acted very courageously.

UKTrainMan said:he entered the passenger area of the train to warn the passengers of the imminent collisionJust wondering, would he have had some sort of intercom/announcement system? Given the likely lack of time, I wonder if he would have been able to inform those in the second coach if he was just running back - of course, he may well have announced it and then gone back. Probably better to post any more thoughts (“speculation”) to other forums here http://www.railwayforum.net/showthread.php?t=8367 or here http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=35705 before someone becomes a nervous gibbering wreck. Now, where did I put the Valium... Log in to reply |

It's shown up on lots of rail sites. The Yahoo "British Rail" group makes some interesting reading as it's all about the length of time the line will be closed compared to the "Good Old Days" (there quote). Dave M. Log in to reply |
