I have a little problem basically I have 1A18 running 5 late which is a HST standing at Belle Isle waiting to use it's booked platform which is Platform 1 but the only issue is I've got 5S35 in there waiting for 5H96 to arrive to perform the next part of it's duties.

So that being said, I cannot set a route into Platform 1 as the 2nd train over length light comes on which I believe comes on when you try to put a train into a platform which it is too long for.

This HST is booked to arrive at 15:15 and depart at 16:50, I've got 1S76 in Platform 4 due to depart at 1530 would it be advisable to route 1A18 into that platform vice Platform 1?

What would you guys do?

It's really a matter of looking forward at booked platform usage over the next couple of hours and seeing where you've got an opportunity to swap something with 1A18 without having a domino effect on everything else. So if say you had one booked into P3 after 5H96 and out much later, you could put 1A18 into P3 and then run the one booked into there into P1 instead. It's unlikely to be that simple though, and you'll generally find that by changing platforms (especially something with a long layover), you'll have to shift another train or two somewhere else, and so on.

What I would avoid, if possible, is delaying 1A18 until 1530 - that's a delay in excess of 15' that shouldn't be necessary.

Is 1A18 booked to use "P1 (long)" at King's Cross? If so then the TT is correct, and 1A18 should arrive and its next working depart before 5H96 arrives for the join to 5S35.

The "2nd Train Overlength" button I have always thought of as a little buggy, as I have had issues with joins in Platforms 9-11 at KX, and maybe it's the same kind of problem here.

Are you using the outer set of points to access Platform 1? or the inner set that enter part-way along the platform?

That's a thought - I assumed that 5S35 must have been in P1 out-of-course! If it's a booked move, then it's either a timetable error or it'll fit! The overlength indicator surely wouldn't work correctly (in reality) for every possible combination of trains either, given that it relies upon occupation of a limited number of TCs of a fixed length?

As I said, I've had buggy activity with the Over-length indicator.

I remember being confused by this move the first time I saw it, but I did get it working in sim versions without the over-length indicator.

Try cancelling the route, locking the points for using the outer set of points, and passing the signal at danger. See what happens...

1A18 (HST - 196m) goes on top of 5S35 (113m).P1 is 359m.long. The timetable quotes P1 Long! The overlenght indicator is not correct.

Incidentley, I think these posts should be in the Timetable section.

Well I took a gamble and told the driver to pass the signal at danger and managed to get it into the platform although I then had to manually cancel the route into the platform and reimpose the correct headcode for the outwards workings.

It's just I've never played any 70s or 80s timetables for Kings Cross so all this extra shunting is all new to me, I usually just have the modern ones say 2005 etc....
