Special 'Day of the Week' decision 11/09/2018 at 21:19 #112092

Would it be possible to create a special Day of the Week decision, such that the user can select the day of the week on start-up?

My proposal would is this:

The 'DOTW' decision name is reserved for this purpose, along with the choices MON, TUE, WED, etc. The TT writer writes the timetable in the usual way, entering the decision name and choice as they do now. However, they do not create the DOTW decision themselves. Instead, they tick a series of boxes to indicate which days are available in the TT. If the TT developer ticks no boxes, the user is not given the option of a specific day.

When the user starts the simulation and selects the timetable, they are given the option of 'Random', or a specific day. The choice is then 'pre-made' before trains are seeded at the start of the simulation.

What does everyone think?

Sounds like a good idea to me Steamer. I've just recently delved into timetable writing and used decisions on my latest one for the first time (Leeds NW Winter 1987) which I really enjoyed the challenge.
However, I found it a bit of a pain when checking the timetable waiting for the right day to randomly appear, so if your idea came to fruition it would help the developer too (imo).

As a fudge, you can load the TT, set the weights of all the choices except the day you want to 0, save the TT then reload the sim and you'll get the day you want. Remember to reset the altered weights to 1 after you've done what you have to do.

A bit like that you see in Siam rail sims where you get the choice of working a weekday or Saturday or Sunday on the opening start of the sim you were to play.
Interesting even though I find Siam railgames really challenging !!!
