whilst using the West Hampstead summer 2018 thameslink tt. i have noticed that down trains stop at leagreave on the down slow that they go past the signal and occupy the tc after the signal WH308 (tc T687). it also happens in all other tts.

i have added a save of the issue at leagreave

loader version 4.8.2

sim version 1.11

Just a side note I belive you mean Up slow and not the down slow as signal 308 is on the up slow.

In the UK railways all lines towards London are (to my knowledge) always UP. On the railways you travel UP to London even if you are travelling from Scotland.

If you dob;t already know this the sigbificance of lines being called UP or DOWN is historical in the sense that the line towards the capital operating base was always calassed as the UP. London being regarded as the main base hence all lines going towards London were called UP & lines taking traffic away from London called DOWN. lines rinnung across the country from East to West or visa versa the UP line was given to the line conveying traffic to the greater traffic centre.

However on the Midland Railway, Up related towards Derby and Down related towards London however I'm not sure when they changed it to Up being towards London and Down being towards Derby?

It originates with the LBSCR being the first to designate lines as such. Of course for them London was up. The only exception I can think of is the GCR who insisted up was actually up!

A lot of the Taff Vale Railway lines where up to the head of the valleys.

The GCR used to be the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire, so Manchester was "up".

While most of the main railways in England were based in London, there was no rule saying London had to be "up" or that the biggest place had to be "up" on cross-country lines. The Stamford lines into Peterborough are "down" towards Peterborough simply because they're following the direction from St.Pancras via Leicester.
Someone's already mentioned the South Wales valleys. I'm not at all sure what the usual practice was in Scotland.

also further to this issue that i raised i have noticed it has at least a few more staions like luton platform 3.

could it be something to do with the train lengths.

Forget that comment: they're down towards Leicester, though measured from zero at Manton Jn increasing towards Peterborough.

Luton platform 3 is only 200m in length in the eras provided same as p1-2, these may have been upgraded sometime after 2009 to accomodate longer trains but are not at present accomodated in sim.

check out this wiki page for current platform lengths for eras provided

But please bare in mind any major changes made in the area after 2009 are not currently simulated, case in point Luton had platform extention work done in 2010-2011

Complex.

Coming out of Glasgow Central, it's Down towards the Paisleys, Ayr, and Stranraer, but Up towards Carlisle on both routes, to Neilston, and to East Kilbride; the Cathcart Circle is Up going clockwise. The Low Level is Down heading west and Up heading east. It's Down into Queen Street and Up coming out.

The lines between Glasgow and Edinburgh are all Up to Edinburgh *except* that it's Down from Carstairs to Edinburgh. Of course, it's Down from King's Cross to Waverley via Berwick.

Further north the general rule is Up southwards, Down northwards.

I suspect youre right as this sim is pre upgrade and some stations won't handle 12 car trains. Try setting the stopping position to FX.

I’m not sure that it was ever Down towards London. I suspect that it’s been Up towards London for as long as the Midland Railway had a route there, via Hitchin initially of course.

The MS&LR was Up towards Lincolnshire from, so far as I can tell, construction. I’m fairly sure that I’ve seen documents relating to the opening of the first Woodhead Tunnel that have Up in that direction, and that’s certainly how it is now on the remaining bits east of the Pennines, at least.

The London Extension was certainly Up to London from its opening (operating documentation relating to the movement of mineral trains before the formal opening confirm this), although the mileage increases in the Up direction, contrary to the usual convention.

I know that you’ve already corrected yourself, but the principle might have been sound - it’s potentially a continuation of the Up direction from Nottingham towards London via Melton and Manton (the Peterborough branch, as it was before Manton was remodelled to remove the severe speed restriction in that direction, diverging at the latter), which was the main line before closure of the through route north of Melton. I wonder whether it was ever Up towards Manton though, when it was a relatively insignificant branch off the Midland Railway’s network.

Mantis 21791 has been closed: platform lengthening happened after the era the sim was modelled on, along with many other changes to the signalling in the area. As such, running modern timetables on the sim is on a best-effort basis.
