Hello to all the Development team,

I was thinking, an excellent sim for MP would be the whole area of Clapham Junction. The sheer amount of traffic volume per day and the size would make it really interesting.

I know Clapham Jn South is on the 'Waterloo' sim and some one has said to me Clapham Jn North is on another sim. Was just wondering,

1. Is Clapham Jn split across a number of boxes or its own box in real life?
2. If it is its own box could it be developed?
3. If it is split, does anyone know what sim Clapham Jn North is on?

Alan.

In reality Clapham Junction is controlled by two boxes. The lines to/from Victoria are controlled by Victoria ASC (actually located at Clapham Junction) whilst the lines to/from Waterloo and the West London Line are contolled by Wimbledon.

However despite being the busiest station in Britain, there are very few conflicting moves at Clapham and no connection between the Waterloo and Victoria lines.

If you have played the Waterloo sim you may have noticed that, for the most part the majority of panels 2 and 3 can be left in auto, and apart from Windsor line trains converging at West London Junction and Up Main Fast services using either platforms 7 or 8, very little intervention is required of the signaller.

Clapham Junction in real life is done by Wimbledon ASC (platforms 2 - 11), and Victoria Central (platforms 12-17).

Clapham is, effectively, served by 2 (you might even say 3) completely separate railways. The (Simsig) simulated portion is the South West Trains part of the complex, previously the London & South Western Railway and is itself divided into Main and Windsor lines, which are more-or-less self contained. In days of yore these lines were signalled by Clapham A (both sides) and Clapham C (Windsor Lines only) boxes and are now worked from the so-called Waterloo Signalling Centre (actually located at Wimbledon). Meanwhile the higher-numbered platforms serve (the present) Southern Railway franchise & were originally created by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway. They were signalled from Clapham B (the 2-lever junction!) and are now worked by Victoria Signalbox, which is actually at Clapham Junction (just on the London side of the still-extant Clapham B structure).

There was once a crossover between the Brighton & Main Lines but I think you'll find it went with the Victoria resignalling of the early '80s; as far as I'm aware it was hardly ever used anyway. There's relatively little actual working of junctions; the Brighton Line trains just come & go on their 4-track main line and the Sou' West generally works as 2 independent 4-track routes. Traffic on & off the West London Line and to/from Stewarts Lane is really the only exception.

Well you already have one side of Clapham Junction on Waterloo, the other side would be covered on a Victoria Central area sim.
