Looking through some old loco workings from 1984 there is a class 37 which shows the following:- Humberstone Road 08:50 9T40 Loughborough 09:16 09:19 (B.O.C.L) Hotchley Hill 09:41 10:05 Hotchley Hill 11:00 11:30 Loughborough 11:51 11:54 (T.O.C.L) Humberstone Road 12:23 The question is does anyone know what B.O.C.L & T.O.C.L Stand for? 99% sure they are not a place. something to do with Carriage Lines? Google doesn't help at all...Hotchley Hill is something to do with British Gypsum I think

These codes are from 1984 Midland Lines Trip Notices & as such aren't to do with passenger workings. These codes code be specific to Loughborough Yard. There's nothing in the BR LMR Sectional Appendix for 1988 that enlightens us. I'm currently looking through all the 20-30 trip notices I have to see if these codes have been used elsewhere. But so far haven't found anything.

3 minutes is a very short dwell time for any activity at a location. Are they actually activities at Loughborough rather than locations? Was there a token for hotchley Hill at the time that was collected here? "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

Could well be to do with the token for the Hotchley Hill line which was kept no doubt at that time in Loughborough North signalbox. The 3 minutes would cover that.

However, collecting and returning tokens happens in numerous places but isn't shown anywhere else in the diagrams

It would appear that these letters refer to Top Of Chord Line & Bottom Of Chord Line.

I'd just worked out that "C.L." was "Chord Line" and therefore the "O." was probably "on". My guess is that it means that the timings for Loughborough are *not* for the station but, rather, for the appropriate end of the chord line. Since it was clearly on a slope, "bottom" will be the Midland end and "top" the GCR end. Log in to reply |

As far as I can recall the Ruddington branch was OTW Without Train Staff. When a train went on the branch two lamps on the box diagram became illuminated, indicating a train on the branch. I'll see if I can dig out a photo. AS an aside, I don't know if this was intentional or not, but when Leicester PSB was commissioned the signal from the former GCR Ruddington branch to the Up Goods (now Up Slow) at Loughborough South Jn was (and still is) numbered LR506, coincidentally the same number as preserved GCR 'Director' class loco 'Butler Henderson'. Edit:- The photo I have is taken from the wrong end of the diagram so it's not possible to see the 'Branch Occupied' indication clearly.
