Comedian and Actor Sir Norman Wisdom passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening aged 95 after a prolonged spell of ill health. He had suffered several strokes and his health had declined steadily over the past few months. A true legend of British Comedy. Can't remember which film it was but will always remember him sitting on the back of a "Bubble Car" (Class 121 or 122) after narrowly missing catching the train. Think it was filmed in Devon somewhere.

A couple of years ago I met a fella who was called William Grimsdale. Yes he was introduced as Mr. Grimsdale, and yes I tried my best Sir Norman Wisdom impression. He [William Grimsdale] was, and probably still is, American so this went totally over his head, but my oh my, I was in hysterics. Sir Norman came from the time when comics understood how to be funny without being coarse or vulgar, sadly that is now long forgotten. RIP Sir Norman, and thanks for all the laughs. Log in to reply |
