Please can someone tell me how to see/print the timetable for Portsmouth? I tried this a few years ago now and I am sure it was different then with the timetable giving prompts? Many thanks. Log in to reply |

I'm not exactly sure what you mean? To see a train's timetable, just click on the headcode.

Thank you for the advice, I didn't make it clear, I am looking for the 24 hour timetable for the area so I know what to signal and when. A few years ago I tried Portsmouth and I am sure there were prompts as to what to do and when to do it. Many thanks. Log in to reply |

To see a list of every train in the timetable, open the Timetable Editor (F4), and go to the 'Timetables' tab. For a list of trains at a given location, open the Simplifier (F8), and select a location (and platforms, if applicable). Are you confusing SimSig with PC-Rail? See a typical screenshot of their simulations here. "Don't stress/ relax/ let life roll off your backs./ Except for death and paying taxes/ everything in life.../ is only for now." The Simplifier (F8) output can be printed (click 'Show in web browser', then print it as you would a web page), there's no easy way to print anything else unless you want to mess around taking screen shots.

You are quite right it was PC-Rail I tried some time ago. Now you can put me straight here. The PC-Rail simulator uses constant timetable prompts. Surely this is a lot easier than having to call up the timetable constantly to know what is going on? OR am I operating the simulator wrong. Answer would be appreciated. Many thanks. Generally, I don't need to check the F4 train list when playing, as all the information I can view the timetable by clicking the description, and there is enough warning of trains approaching the area to ensure I can make an informed decision about which should go first (e.g. trains approaching from Fareham and Havant on Portsmouth). SimSig strives to be as realistic as possible- in the real world, it is the signaller's responsibility to make sure they're on top of what's going on. There are, of course, prompts in the form of TRTS indicators for trains ready to depart from the two Portsmouth stations. PC-Rail and SimSig are structured very differently; SimSig has a much more detailed timetabling system, and as such SimSig trains will reverse, join and divide at the appropriate locations without any user intervention. Seems odd to me. You are saying that the trains are telling the signalman what to do, should be the other way round? Thank you for all your help. Log in to reply |

Stafford in post 119725 said:Seems odd to me. You are saying that the trains are telling the signalman what to do, should be the other way round? The timetable is telling the signaller what to do, not the train. Similarly, when the platform staff give TRTS, they are indicating to the signaller that he/she can signal the train as required by the timetable. The driver of the train is then responsible for following the signals as set by the signaller (or querying the signal that has been given). “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

In real life there are various tools signallers have - printed simplifiers which are replicated by pressing F8, or looking up the schedule in TRUST by typing a DOS-like command in with the train's headcode, which is replicated by clicking on the train description like Steamer says.
