The following trains have incorrect max speed of 90mph:-
3Q03 2254 Eastleigh - Eastleigh (0204 enters, Shoreham)
3Q25 2255 Hither Green - Woking (0105 enters, Crystal Palace; 0159 Sutton)
3Q22 2030 Hither Green - Hither Green (2159 enters, Streatham Jn; 0204 Horsham

These trains are Ultrasonic Test Units (UTU's), which have a max transit speed of 75mph and max recording speed of 30mph. I've checked the recording plans and timings, the trains are recording for virtually all of their time on the sim (apart from a few very short transits) and the timings are all correct, but the max speed for all 5 trains needs amending in the TT to 30mph, as their probes will quickly shred at 90mph and are expensive to replace.

3 x 1Q72 and 1 x 1Q73 are all showing as UTU's and with a max speed of 75mph, but UTU's do not run Cl.1, and rarely run with T&T 73's except where required due to restrictions on 37's. UTU's are generally (but not always) 37+Barrier+NVA+Gen Van+Test coach+DBSO. Without checking the timings, my guess is these 1QXX's are PLPR or track geometry trains, which can record at max speed 90mph, and can often run two shifts, as is borne out by 1Q73 start and finish times 1933 - 1004. I don't know of any UTU diagrams starting that early in the evening (due to the speed we test at, we'd just be in the way) or finishing that late in the morning at Hither Green.

Regards,

Phil.

PS 3Q22 needs a rule adding. The 0204 entry at Horsham is the return working of the 2159 Streatham Jn entry, so a rule needs adding for the 2159 3Q22 not to run if the 0204 3Q22 does run.

A suggestion regarding 3Q22 2159 Streatham entry - could a seed of this train be added to seed at T294 Sig UML Balcombe Tunnel Jn at 0005 (booked to stand there 0006 - 0007) and then record to Horsham as booked? I'm just thinking if this was possible a rule could be made stating if this train seeds (I don't know if seeds are optional or must happen) then the Streatham Jn 2159 entry must not run, and a second rule stating that the Horsham 0204 entry must not enter until xx mins after the 0004 seeded 3Q22 has left the sim?

Just a thought.

Phil

I would just like to add that the 0204 entry and 2159 are 2 different trains, the 0204 entry would be off the previous days circuit (ie the Tuesday) and the 2159 entry would be that days circuit (Wednesday), if we are to get fully realistic the the 0204 entry should not even be in the sim at the time specified as its journey would of started late on Wednessday and being a Wednesday only train the 0204 would not be able to run at that time Wednessday morning and would finally only come from Horsham at 0204 on the Thursday morning (26:04 sim time).

Sometimes when creating the timetables we do come across trains like this were the journey starts late in the day and crosses the midnight boundry ie starts its run on a Wednessday evening and only finnishes its journey on Thursday morning. We have to make compromises on how to handle these trains and sometimes to get maximun variation of types of trains run. Not many SimSignallers will run post 2400 simtime so it would be unlikey to have any benefit moving the 0204 entry to 2604.

Mark you are incorrect. The 0204 from Horsham is the return of the 2159 Streatham entry (2030 Hither Green - Victoria - Haywards Heath - TB - Horsham - TB - Victoria - Hither Green). I work these trains and have the diagram in front of me as I type this. The Brighton line Slows and the Horsham branch are all done in one night. I wasn't going to mention realism as having one or two test trains running around in the night gives us Simsiggers something to do in the otherwise quiet small hours, but as you've mentioned it neither 3Q22 0204 entry nor 3Q25 should be in the sim as they are WO trains, meaning both would appear on this sim past midnight at 2505 (3Q25) and 2604 (3Q22). 3Q22 2159 entry is the only legit schedule as 09/01/19 was a Wednesday (2030 WO ex Hither Green), but as I said, I'm not too concerned about a couple of test trains keeping us occupied in the wee small hours. Incidentally, looking back through the roster no UTU's operated on Sussex Route at all in Week 41. The only UTU anywhere on the Southern that week was UTU3 on Wessex Route, which worked Reading - Portsmouth & rtn TO, and Westbury - Southampton - Bristol THO.

I was not suggesting moving the 0204 Horsham entry to seed at Balcombe Tunnel Jn at 2604. A was suggesting the 2159 Streatham entry which runs to Haywards Heath (2318 - 2357) and returns to Three Bridges via Balcombe Tunnel Jn (0006-0007) before reversing and going to Horsham also have 2nd schedule set to seed at Balcombe Tunnel Jn at 0004, with a rule added that if this train seeds at 0005 the 2159 entry 22 hrs later does not run.

Phil.
