I have tried seeding a service in the 2014 to 2017 era at East Croydon platform 6 and noted on opening the sim the service has not been placed at a stop at signal T123. Instead it occupies the full track circuit which although it may be correct in practice it looks rather odd on the sim screen. Is this correct?

The overlap here is quite long and drawn to reflect this. This is in part due to overlapping track circuits that are approximated in sim. There's 200m of space available behind the signal, but still on the tc.
(The train is seeded at the signal in the track circuit).

You can thank the Southern for their love of combined overlaps, even at controlled signals. Thankfully it's largely being done away with as areas get resignalled.

Another hint would be to turn on the showing of TC breaks to see that it is indeed correct, if looking a little odd.

Honestly combined overlaps make it much easier to deal with TCFs! (At least in SimSig).
